I have not yet installed IE 7. I had the impression that it was not running well on some machines. I almost never use IE except for those sites that require it.
What are some opinions as to the desireability of going to IE7 from V6? I am not looking for unnecessary problems.
Thanks,
Jerry

I use it very little also. Mostly for windows updates. I used this sticky as a guide so I wouldn't have any problems with installation.

I remember reading about a problem/slowdown with the built in phishing filter. I think there was a work around or a fix for it. HTH, innerpeace

I like it much better than IE6. But I do not use the phishing filter. IE7pro and iespell are nice add-ons.

I rarely use it but IE7 has been working fine for me.
Also you can count my vote for ie7pro; its a neat addon.

See the page for all the features (http://www.ie7pro.com/).
Personally I like the new tab features it gives, and if I did not use Ad Muncher, the ad blocker would also be great.

Most of the problems I have heard about concern running IE7 on XP. Since it was originally\basically written for Vista. I have it on my XP lap top but do not use it enough to give a fair appraisal.

Hello,
I have tested this sad little browser and found it mediocre.
And I have not installed it either. I use it once a month or every two months to check for windows updates or to see if my bank is still retarded enough not to be able to create a normal webpage.

Though it took a while to get used to the interface at first, it has become my main browser now. I have also seen Protected Mode (which makes IE run with lower privileges than a standard user) come into play several times, blocking stuff that websites try to install. Too bad they cannot implement that into the XP version.

Perhaps this is something for the IE7 users:
{QUOTE-> IE7Pro is a must have add-on for Internet Explorer, which includes a lot of features and tweaks to make your IE friendlier, more useful, secure and customizable. IE7Pro includes Tabbed Browsing Management, AD Blocker, Flash Block, Super Drag Drop, Crash Recovery, Proxy Switcher, Mouse Gesture, Tab History Browser, Web Accelerator, User Agent Switcher, Webpage Capturer, Greasemonkey like User Scripts platform, User Plug-ins and many more power packed features. You can customize not just Internet Explorer, but even your favorite website according to your need and taste using IE7Pro. <-QUOTE}

In their infinite wisdom, when MS designed IE7 they limited its integrated Mailing functions. In IE6, the 'Mail' button provided the options to Read Mail, Send Mail, Send Link, etc. Unless I'm missing something, IE7 only offers a 'Read Mail' button (which in my case opens Outlook). :-\

Yes and EU and other open source organizations would claim, that MS does not give a chance to 3-rd party aplications. MS will allways have problems with those *****. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

True, but that's not the issue I'm complaining about... As an Outlook user I expected IE7 at the very least to simply provide the same mailing functions as IE6.

I think, that it was MS's intention, to separate Outlook from IE as much as possible.
An integrated email client in IE would be "as bad" as an integrated WMP in Windows.
Vista could be great, but MS had to trush AV and other features due to restrictions.

If that was their intention, they should (could) have provided a setup/configuration mode for popular mail clients. I don't see how restricting the mail button to just open the MS mail client (rather than provide mailing options) serves any purpose. :thumbd:

Ron, I don't see where that addresses the integrated Mailing options of IE7. :-\

It addresses the separation of IE from the Windows shell, which people have been wanting for a long time by the way.

Thanks to All for the replies. I am convinced that it is time to upgrade to IE 7. I think the bugs have been worked out pretty well. I have been refusing the upgrade at the Windows Update, but at the next one I plan to install IE7.
Many thanks,
Jerry

Several sites and programs get broken by IE7. Make sure all software you use supports IE7. I'd take an image before updating so I could roll back in case it causes problems.
All that said, I just block IE at the firewall so I don't really pay attention to what version I have.
