two on guard on okay or not

I'm using multiple anti-spyware programs, avg anti-spyware and spy doctor. Both have real time guards, the on-guard for anti-spyware and the resident shield for spy ware doctor. I'm wondering if both of these real time guards can be on at the same time. Someplaces I've read not to have several real time programs on at the same time, yet avg anti-spyware says that it is compatible with spy doctor.

Possibily they can run fine together but that can change if two guards find the same nasty thing.
