Email tag

All of a sudden i am getting tags on all incoming email.

You have to set things to never otherwise the tags won't go away.

I figured it out. Under Email Protection you first
have "Microsoft Outlook" ( uggghhh ), then you
have POP3.I had it set properly under MS Outlook,
but not under POP3. Very likely i was a bit hasty
and did not set ESS up properly when upgrading
to the recent 3.0.135.0 Beta.

I certainly do not want it set to "never", if i get an
infected email i want as much information on it as
soon as possible.

Just to confuse you more, even if you use Outlook, the setting in the Outlook setting don't work either(go figure, I hope this is just a bug). The pop3 setting apply to all email. I'm trying to figure out what the settings in the Outlook section actually do.

It probably applies to { IMAP / exchange /whatever } mail protocol that isn't pop3 and therefore not scanned by the POP3 traffic scanner.

Seems like the question has already been answered but the one thing that seems useless is tags on outgoing UNinfected mails. :)

First, they are at the BOTTOM of the mail, so it's not like your friend have any assurance the mail is uninfected before they read it or even open it, right? Only AFTER they read your message, at the bottom does is say "scanned blah blah blah". At that point it's useless. Maybe if it was at the TOP or even in the subject line -- but that would be even more annoying.

Second, any virus writer can replicate that tag with a script to go out with all VIRUS-LADEN mails.

So, a tag like that doesn't really do any good, now does it? All it does is take up space at the bottom of the e-mail you are sending to friends. It doesn't really mean the message doesn't have a virus and it comes way too late in the message to do any good.

My rant for the day.

I can see where virus warnings for INcoming mails might be OK, just as a periodic check that my virus scanner is working and protecting me.
