I have a Windows 2003 server (actually, it is a Small Business Server 2003) with two 36GB SCSI drives, C: (drive 0) and D: (drive 1). The C: drive has the OS and Exchange Server mail stores. The D: drive is all our data.
The C: drive is failing (reporting disk errors on the event logs), but it is still running enough to limp along and get stuff backed up, etc.
I am replacing the C: drive with a 73GB SCSI drive. Based on what I've read about MigrateEasy, here is what I think I can do:
1. Remove the D: drive
2. Temporarily install the new SCSI drive in the D: drive bay
3. Install the MigrateEasy software
4. "Clone" the C: drive to the new D: drive with MigrateEasy
5. Remove the C: drive, replace it with the new drive
6. Reinstall the original D: drive
7. Reboot and be happy happy
My questions are a) will the MigrateEasy software do all this, and b) is this the recommended procedure or is there a better way?
Also, I read something in the overview about it "wiping" the disk. Which disk is wiped? I would not want the "from" disk (original C: drive) touched in any way so I could go back if necessary.
Thanks in advance for any advice....
