Hello am new to this Forum,

My new Windows XP PRO desktop system will ONLY open to the System32 folder instead of my desktop?

This started following immediately after my registration at the SONIC DVD site,...SONIC came with my system and prompted me to register,...it was installed on my new desk top computer from DELL.

Before I registered at SONIC everything was all AOK, with my computer always opening to the desktop as it should have.

Was wondering if I picked up a virus or something at the SONIC site that caused this?

Thank you for any responses or comments.

Hi safetee,

Welcome at Wilders. :)

Could you post your HijackThis log (http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/)
Download, Unzip and run HijackThis. Then click Scan > Save log, save the log as a .txt file and copy & paste its content into your next post.
Don´t fix anything yet. Most of what it finds is harmless.

Regards,

Pieter

Usually a corrupt run key in the registry. There is a fix available at kelly-korner (http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm) Line 260 - right hand side.
Some more info at MSKB170086 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q170086)
