The makers of SPAMfighter, a somewhat well-known anti-spam outfit, recently launched VIRUSfighter and SPYWAREfighter, which are anti-virus and anti-spyware solutions. Now, VIRUSfighter is based on Norman, actually it is just a rebranded Norman with extra graphics and slightly modified interface.

However, SPYWAREfighter remains shrouded in mystery to me. You can see the website here:

http://www.spamfighter.com/spywarefighter/

From the features advertised, it *looks* to be a clone of Ewido/AVG Anti-Spyware. However, unlike VIRUSfighter it does not look to be a plain rebrand. It seems that this has a different interface than Ewido.

SPYWAREfighter costs $29 for 1 year, with not much info revealed about renewals. However, this could be potentially great news for those people who no longer like AVG Anti-Spyware due to update issues and other things.

So, has anyone tried this one out?

No offense but the picture on the upper right corner looks a bit like a rouge product.

It may look like a rogue product, but the company behind it are not behaving like rogues...You can see more screenshots here:

Overall, pretty good interface for an Ewido clone (if it is one). How good the product is remains unknown to me though.

Spywarefighter is not rogue. It is made inhouse by russians, and based on Ewido/AVG rules and signatures.

It's danish, Webster or do you mean that russian's are doing the GUI makeover? :)

I am Danish too ;) .

Tried it when it was in beta. Not many features then.

I am not shure if it`s only a GUI makeover.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been a big fan of SPAMfighter for years, so I'll try this new anti-spyware app on some infected pc's and compare the results against AVGAS. ;D

SPYWAREfighter support says "Yes, it is the same database." :)

It seems to lack customization options, and when it finishes scanning the results window lacks a lot of info about the malware. You don't get many choices about what to do either. It's been a week or so since I've used it so I will find another hosed machine at the office tomorrow morning and do some additional testing.

no rouge, Spamfighter = MS certified.

Not long to down as the file size is 400kb but took along time to install and then update, good AS with rightclick scanning.

12/12 on real malware.
