I have a PC that I upgraded the hard drive to a 120 gig. from a 40 gig. It is running Windows XP SP2. The original hard drive was the active drive. I left the original drive in the PC when I reloaded XP. Now the "D:" 40 gig is the active drive although the boot is the "C:" 120gig. I can not use adminstrative tools to make the "C:" 120 gig. the active drive. It might be because the bios in the PC doesn't recognize drives bigger than 40 gig. so I had to use Western Digital's Install tools. The "C:" 120 gig. drive appears to be a virtual drive. There are no bios upgrades available for the PC. I think my only option is to install a new 40 gig. in place of the 120 gig. "C:" drive. I would like to remove the old original 40 gig. so I can use Acronis Backup to create a Bootable Active Image of the "C:" drive. I can create an image of the "C:" drive now, but it is not nor can it be made active on the 120 gig.
Any other ideas would be appreciated.

See Multi-Booting with Windows in an Extended Partition (http://www.goodells.net/multiboot/partsigs.htm). Put the 40GB drive in as the boot drive and disconnect the 120GB and set the 40GB drive as active. Reboot and start over. This time after cloning the 40GB to the 120GB, power off and set the 120GB drive as the boot drive and disconnect the old drive. Then restart the machine.
