I just downloaded this firewall, from

http://www.deerfield.com

and got it set up, using their suggested configuration. It's pretty impressive and, I think, pretty expensive. I did a search at Wilders for information on it but found nothing. Does anyone else use it, or does anyone have any opinion of it.

A couple of things I like: it's stealthed all across the board at the sites I use and, it doesn't flood you with pop up window warnings. It seems to just sit there and do its job. I haven't tried any leak tests on it yet.

This is a rebadged 8signs Firewall (from the same writer of Conseal Firewall)

http://www.8signs.com

I agree it just works - shame it doesn't have a display of current open ports and the applications using them - application support only appears to come with the server version at 4 times the price.

They are the same firewall. Initially published through Deerfield (http://www.deerfield.com/) as Ambra Firewall, then as VisNetic Firewall. 8Signs then started publishing it under their own name as well.

The server version displays open ports and active connections. There is no application support/control in either the workstation or server versions. The workstation version should have the active connections display in the next release.

I also asked 8signs for active connections to be in the Workstation version as other workstation firewalls have this as a standard feature

And before “Ambra Firewall” it was called “Advanced Firewall”. ;)

I have received an email from James at 8signs and he said that v2.2 is due for release next week and has Connections display in the workstation version but Port display will stay in the server version.

He also wanted to point out that 8signs has SYN flood protection and tarpitting and I would add stateful packet inspection.
