As my external hard drive has less capacity than what I have stored on my hard drive, I am scheduling backup of just selected files/applications. However, the file size of the backup is less than what the total of all the files I am backing up. When I try to view the contents of the backup, nothings happens. (Am using Windows Vista Home Premium edition). Is there something I am doing wrong in selecting the files to backup or is this probably a problem with Vista?

what level of compression are you using ? that could be the factor in the differing file size issue

Hello sidbueddro,
Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).
Please notice that unless specified otherwise Acronis True Image uses a compression on data being backed up.
Please clarify, are you trying to explore the backup, as described in chapter 12.1 "Exploring an archive" of the respective User's Guide (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/download/docs/)?
Thank you.
