I was very disappointed today, as version 9.1 was quite good.

This morning I saw acronis said my backup was successful under tasks, but looking in the log it had an "invalid password" error and never backed up.

Then starting my system backup again, I found all my other "system" incrementals were deleted, so I have no backup.

Then I found the new successful backup, which was named "system" had been renamed to "main" during the backup... This was a different backup I was keeping in the same location. So now I have no backup archives called system and one called main that contains system data... and not my main data. The data from my main backup was also deleted. In addition I have loads of files taking up GBs disk space named "2007_04_18_16_19_57_437D4.TIB" etc.

To make this nice and confusing the log file is like reading program debug information. Where's the user interface?

Yesterday I went around is circles too as there was virtually no documentation on the quotas and how and what and when things get deleted.

** This software appears to be in a beta state, so I will be ask for a refund and return to the stable version 9.1.

Hello jez,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).

Please be aware that we have not heard about such problems of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home before and so we would like to investigate this one with your assistance, if you have time for this of course.

Could you please provide us with some additional information on the issues you encounter so we could provide you with the instructions on how to solve them, if you have time for this of course?

-{ Quote: "Then starting my system backup again, I found all my other "system" incrementals were deleted, so I have no backup." }-

Could you please describe the actions taken to backup the system? Where did you store the image archive? Did you use Backup Location?

-{ Quote: "Then I found the new successful backup, which was named "system" had been renamed to "main" during the backup... " }-

It could be possible that when you performed the new backup you specify the name for the backup archive - "main" (or selected this "main" backup from the drives tree). Therefore, the old "main" was overwritten. Check chapter 5.2.5 "Selecting the backup destination" in the Acronis True Image 10.0 Home User's Guide (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/download/docs/) for more details.

-{ Quote: "In addition I have loads of files taking up GBs disk space named "2007_04_18_16_19_57_437D4.TIB" etc." }-

Please note that Acronis True Image 10.0 Home uses file names as you provided for the backup archives stored in the Backup Location. Please take a look at this previous post of mine (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=873072&postcount=30), which explains file name structure.

I would also recommend that you have a look at this thread <delete inkremental Backups after a defined time (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=151043)>, which contains the information and examples on how to use Backup Location.

-{ Quote: "This morning I saw acronis said my backup was successful under tasks, but looking in the log it had an "invalid password" error and never backed up." }-

Could you please save the log file from Acronis True Image 10.0 Home that contains the error message? In order to do so please do the following:

- run the program;

- select Show log on the toolbar or from the Tools menu;

- select the log with error messages;

- click "Save the log entry to file" (the diskette icon)

Then submit a request for technical support (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/my/support/). Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with a solution.

If you have any further questions concerning Acronis software, please feel free to post any of them on this forum. We will certainly try to help you in resolving any issues.

Thank you.

Thank you for your reply.

I have also had an email reply from Acronis support, as I asked for a refund. They have been helpful and for now I will go back to version 9.1.

I appreciate you trying to help, but I know I will not be happy with the Locations in version 10.

And in any case, as soon as I insert a new USB drive, disk, USBPen etc, all my drives change and the Acrnois location is pointing at the wrong disk. Something I expected Acrnois to address in V10. It's time True Image stopped referring to Drive Letters for scheduled backups and searched for the correct drive.
