Does the automatic clone option delete the source drive's data? Is it set-able?
I plan to clone (not image and restore) the HD in my laptop to a larger drive. I did it on my desktop, and TI9 made it quick and easy. Now I find in the KB or FAQ that I should have run Microsoft's sysprep. Is that necessary, and what are the consequences of NOT doing it?

Thanx, M2

Thanks for the info on sysprep. I haven't cloned the drive yet. I don't understand the rest of your comments. The idea is to replace the 20G drive with a 60G one, not to have an external drive hooked up. It's the same machine.

TI expects to see two drives. That's why I suggested an external drive.

Hello Mickey2,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).

Please note that the option to manage old (source) disk data is available for manual mode only. Please check chapter 12. "Transferring the system to a new disk" in the Acronis True Image 9.0 Home User's Guide (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/download/docs/) to find more information.

Also as thomasjk mentioned you do not need to use Microsoft System Preparation Tool (sysprep) (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/faq/clone-windows-to-hardware/) if you are going to use the cloned drive on the same computer. Sysprep can be useful for transferring the operating system to a different hardware.

In addition, as thomasjk noted to perform clone disk operations of the notebook drive one usually uses USB external enclosure to plug the new drive to the notebook.

Thank you.

Thanks thomasjk and Aleksandr -
Yes, I have a USB external drive to clone to on the laptop. Sorry for the confusion.
I started the cloning using Automatic setting, and got to the part where TI prompts for a re-boot. After the laptop restarts, I get the Analyzing partitions, and then
Error: Disk not found press any key to reboot. WIndows starts, but TI does nothing else.

Hello Mickey2,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).

Could you please create Bootable CD using the latest build (3854) of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home? Then boot you computer from this CD and perform the clone operation.

After the clone is completed please unplug one of the hard drives right after the disk cloning process has been finished, since as thomasjk mentioned keeping both original and cloned hard drives connected might cause different boot or drive letter assignment problems.

Thank you.
