XP's Disk Defragmenter's "analyser" showed a big block of 'green' (immovable files) at the end of the partition that I wanted to resize down from 20 gigs to 10 gigs (all appox) and I wondered if it would cause any trouble. From what I understand most of these files belong to the page files: a.k.a. 'virtual memory'. (See http://www.theeldergeek.com/Paging_File.htm. for a good article on this subject).
I used the manual method and it resized the partition without any problems at all (on a desktop). Apparently "immovable files" are from XP's POINT OF VIEW and (thankfully) not DD10s. After a couple of weeks now, still no discernable problems.
Previously on my laptop DD10 could not even create a partition without declaring "Bad Blocks" were at fault (defragging the drive finally alowed DD10 to create a partition!). When DD10 is "ON" it IS worth its cost.
EDIT: sorry about the link problem-use the link's google box to search for 'page file' and the article loads up.
