Any chance they (ESET) have a list of known issues - to be addressed
and a list of changes still pending?

It seems like that might help with many questions asked. IMHO.

The scheduler doesn't work. I mean, it doesn't run when you tell it to.

And if you click "Run Now" in the scheduler the task is ran as background and you can't access it to stop it.
