View Full Version : Antivirus Only?

Hi,

I know this question has been asked but I can't find a definitive answer. Does anyone know if there will be a straight AV V3.0 released at the same time as ESS or will we have to wait for that? I use a hardware firewall and use Outlook itself to handle Junk E-Mail - I would rather just upgrade my 2 V2.7 licences to the new technology if / when it becomes available.

Thanks

Yep there's going to be an AV only.

As Brian said if you read this forum you can see that besides the ESS suite a stand alone will be released as well

Hmm. What about a firewall only?

i dont think so :D Maybe in the future when esset firewall will gain same respect as their AV.

The core business of ESET is malware protection so they probably won't come with a standalone firewall

Or maybe a AV license key will only unlock the AV component in the ESS suite, so that they don't need to release a separate AV. You may simply have the ESS AV by disabling other components.

Hopefully not...I'd rather the KAV / KIS approach...

Also, a quick try at disabling the firewall in this Beta seemed to disable general web protection as well...or did I do something wrong / misinterpret something? I don't want the firewall but I do want HTTP protection, as with V2.7.

I don't think this idea can be realistic because:

- we have to have something installed but we will not use it
- this "something" is a clinet in the network and drivers which may conflict with our current setup
- if there will be only one installer and the installer decide if the firewall should be installed , then installer should connect to ESET servers which could prevent off-line installation

Quite uncomfortable .

Nothing wrong . The firewall performs web-scan . Have no idea how would they make the AV only

I don't see why they shouldn't release a firewall product...
I mean it's there so why not sell it?

Yes, it would be better if ESET would allow the user to customize the ESS setup so that only the AV component would be installed, or using the KAV approach to make an ESET AV only.

Well, NOD32 2.7 does this already. HTTP scanning without a firewall - as does KAV...

NOD32 uses winsock, I'm not sure what KAV uses nor do I care.

I hope this time it won't take weeks/months to make localize versions for the suite or av. :-\

Yes, that's the only concern I have. Eset is good technology, but it can take them too long to get things 'out of the stable'. I wish we had a V3.0 AV Beta as well...Eset, is there any chance of that? Do you have a Beta candidate for the AV only product?

I believe the SA of NOD32 v3 won't be very different from the AV part in the ESS suite

...which would make sense. Thanks.

What will be the differences between v 2.7 and 3.0 besides the GUI ?
