Ola, AAPlus ;)
There are reports SSM has expired at December 1th; this might be the culprit in your case as well.

Best wishes to you and your family as well, AAPlus!
The issue seems, as of today all SSM versions have expired. The only one able to enlighten you is the software developper...
What to do? You could have a look at Process Guard (http://www.diamondcs.com.au/processguard/).

Hello AAP :).
Just recieved an email from Max (developer of SSM) in reply to the problem....
-{ Quote: "Sorry for inconveniences. It is true, that SSM has unexpectedly expired. I hope that a new version will be available within few hours. This version will work up to 12 2004. Unfortunately, because there were no time to test it, it is expected to contain defects, so be careful and report everything wrong you'll notice.
Best regards,
Max Burmistrov" }-

Here ya go.
New version of SSM (1.9.4 beta 1) was released. In this new version:
* * Config files from previous version now became incompatible
* * New: "General monitoring plug-ins available. WARNING: plug-ins were not tested enough"
* * New: "Single SetWindowsHookEx rule for any hook type is now used"
For 9x users:
If you experiencing an "Access Violation"/"Runtime error"/BSOD or other kinds of crashes when SSM starts, or when you want to run another application or acceess some menus, please report this to author. You may also delete mchook9x.dll (in this case, functionality of Application watching will be seriously limited).
For 9x users:
You will need to uninstall SSM and restart your computer to proceed with update.

Two points make me curious...
1) Why would a free program expire?
2) Why would the program's developer seemingly be taken by surprise when his program reaches an expiration date that he himself must have established?
???

hi bellgamin,
1) my guess is because they are betas
example SSM version 1.8.9 was not a beta (and has no expiration date; also does not have the API call intercept kernel )
versions 1.9+ are betas and have the kernel intercept (which works really well to intercept programs)
I imagine when this comes off beta the expiration will no longer be there
2) we are all human and it goes without saying we are not perfect; possibly has other competing priorities (job, family etc. ) as this is offered free...
I applaud the guy, very resonsive.

To tell you the truth I could not tell you anything about ssm. But the person at begining of the post at the link below ask if anyone knew where to get ssm 1.9.1 and just for general interest since both post's are about ssm I put it here. It was not directed at you personally
