ESS not installing for me [Archive] - Wilders Security Forums

This evening, I attempted several times to install ESS 3.0. Each time, it was get as far as installing drivers then compiling new data, and then it would stop, roll back the changes, and ask me to try again later.

I did not have this issue with my laptop, which is running Windows XP and ESS 3.0 with no issues. It is only having trouble with my Vista desktop.

I had similar issues until I realized the issue was being caused by Vista's UAC system.

Go to the file you downloaded from ESET and give the group 'Everyone' full control of that file. Once I did that, the installation ran fine. Currently running a full scan of my system and everything seems to be working fine.

Also, if you have uninstalled something like Norton, I strongly suggest running their 'Removal Tool' They're notorious for leaving junk behind on your system.
