When downloaded and installed, is there an English option?
Edited. I notice there is a very long license number and then an = ggu+ Is this some sort of user name or just part of the license number?
Thanks,
Jerry

Is there an English option during installation?
Previously I had used the 6 month offer for F-Secure, and it had an English option.

All went well, and it is doing well. I have been using the Workstation trial for about a week, and it has worked well also.
Since I have had problems with both KAV 6, and F-Secure 2007 on this machine, I am hoping that AntiVir will do well. Earlier I found that Avast, F-Prot, and NOD also run well on this computer so I have some good choices.
Hey, that PC Welt magazine has some good offers.

Jerry

Hi Johnny,
That seems to be a recurring problem with all versions of AntiVir. I have had one instance since I installed the PC Welt offer. Although the guard was working, I was not sure until I checked. I did reboot and the icon shows in the tray now.
I cannot understand why this particular problem cannot be fixed. That problem, and the guard not turned on at start caused me to ditch AntiVir on my desktop. I am hoping it is not going to be a problem on this desktop, as I have high conficence in the AV.
Best,
Jerry

this is avery known issue with Avira, and they are diligently working on correcting it. It doesnt effect security but it is just more of a aggravation for the user.

Thanks Coldplay for posting the link. I've been using Avira personal for awhile now and I like it.
My key arrived a few hours ago; haven't tried installing yet as I can't open the document that came in the zipped folder. Adobe won't read it neither will Works. I haven't tried opening it with Office yet as I don't have that program installed on this computer. It's on another computer and I'll try opening it on that in awhile.
Maybe I don't need to open that document at all, there's a promising postscript at the bottom of the letter with what looks like a long key but I'll get to that in a minute.
If the worst comes to the worst, I'll cut and paste the email to Babelfish but I'm hoping that someone here will help me out first.
There's a long, long code at the bottom of the letter as I say, and I'm wondering if this is the key I need.
It goes:
BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-----
Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (GNU/Linux)
It's followed by two lines of code.
I'm wondering if this is the business, the vital information, though the GNU/Linux bit puts me off. Supposing it's not intended for Windows XP at all which is what I'm running.
I'm very excited about Avira Premium. The personal edition runs light as a feather on my system and I'm hoping that I can get this sorted tonight with a some assistance.
It will put the icing on a security system which I've developed over 5 months mainly through reading here in Wilders and importuning the odd bit of help since I've become a member.
Cheers all,
River

You only need HBEDV.key.
Save it to somewhere where you can find it back.
Run the installer and you will be asked for this key. Point to it where you have saved this key.

You do not need to open the key file, but just save it where you can find it when you "Browse" and install it. Anyway, whatever will work. Let us know how you do.

It sure did!
It pays to keep in touch with Wilders. I'm on a steep learning curve as you probably know...but my enthusiasm hasn't wavered in spite of all my shortcomings and a few rookie mistakes.
I now have 10 layers of realtime-protection that fit together nicely and it's all down to things I've learned here and the tremendous support that I've received from my fellow members.
I have a number of on-demand, anti-spyware scanners and the option for real time protection, should that be necessary.
I have Kaspersky online scan which I can run whenever I want and which compliments Avira nicely.
Since I've been using Sandboxie, nothing whatsoever gets through.
I wish I could use PowerShadow on my main computer, such an elegant program. I tried it but unfortunately it didn't suit my laptop.
I've been busy in the past hour downloading Avria Premium onto my other laptop and it went really well. It's scanning now.
Avira suits me down to the ground, it's light and doesn't sulk if you need to turn it off for some reason.
Cheers all and thanks again.

You know what, there were a number of files in Quarantine, two to be exact, in the Avira Anti-Vir classic edition which I uninstalled to make way for the Premium version and it looks like these files went along with it. I'm pretty sure I ought to have restored them first because the thing is, I'm almost certain that they were false positives.
A bad mistake; I hope it doesn't have drastic consequences.

I just saw this thread and got it. So, the deadline is not April 4. I'm glad I read to check Quarantine. I have never heard of an AV deleting quarantine when it is uninstalled so I would not have expected Avira to do that.
It is a really nice offer!
Is there any way to copy exceptions? I have had a real hassle getting all the exceptions listed and I still cannot get one program that has several different paths to it so all is in exceptions. Avira drives me nuts alerting on it anytime I do a search for files or go into my Downloaded Programs folder. I don't want to have to try and figure out all those paths for all my programs that Avira says are viruses and not a single other AV has ever alerted and are not viruses. The one thing I don't like about Avira is how difficult it is to get things into the exceptions lists for both Guard and Scanner.

I'm sure you're right, Mele. I'm not worried about it as I'm quite familiar with German efficiency and attention to detail and I know that an experienced and reputable company like Avira wouldn't overlook an important consideration like that.
I have to say that it's working really nicely for me. I've gone with Cold's configuration everything is hunky-dory. It's a real nice offer and though It's early days, I may well stick with Avira Premium at the end of the trial or even upgrade to the Suite.

Thanks for the notice of this offer - I could not believe that they were offerring 6 months, when a few weeks ago I had to jump through hoops to get a 30 day demo license... It's a good sign from a company to do this.
I got my license key today (on the 10th, so offer extended quite a bit). Haven't installed it yet. I have been using Avira Classic on and off, but came up against the dreaded update failures, which I was getting with the demo of Premium some weeks ago. I have logged a service request with my ISP, which uses a silent proxy, to have Avira's update servers excluded from their caching - this might fix the update issues.
I would very much like to give Avira a serious shot. I gave Eset's Security Suite a run on the weekend, but it's still way too buggy for me. Need something a lot more stable - perhaps Avira will be it.

So far it has been stable for me. Twice the icon did not appear in the tray, although the guard was running. At the suggestion of the AntiVir forum folks,
I uninstalled Snoopfree, and UnHack Me. The problem has not surfaced since then.
Although they recommended I uninstall AVGAS, SuperAntiSpyware, and Win Patrol, also for a test, I only uninstalled the two mentioned above. I disabled AVGAS and SAS and start them manually when I desire.
With the removal of UnHackMe and Snoopfree the speed of the AV opening has increased noticeably. I think one of those was the problem.
Hope this helps some.

Jerry

In general, for a 'major update' I think it is better to uninstall and reinstall, I was already expecting to 'wait' on the Major Update to decide how to proceed (and save some overload on Classic Servers).
This was response to my question on the AVIRA Forum (http://forum.antivir-pe.de/thread.php?postid=172368#post172368)

Hi,
If you update, you will reveive a popup about root-kit installation. If you choose to install, it will be a separate setup for that.
This is not true for Classic version.

Looks like the rootkit detection is only for the Suite users. I thought everyone was getting that including the avira free users. But even the Premium users don't get it. It is the only thing that interests me in the update coming on Wed. I'm disappointed. I don't want the Suite (because I don't like Suites). I really can't tell any difference in this Premium version and the free version except that I don't get an ad when I update and it is easier to set updating to more often than once every 24 hours. Otherwise, there is no significant difference.
JerryM
April 17th, 2007, 09:47 AM
It appears that the Premium and Classic also get the anti-rootkit module. This from the Avira forum.
"Avira Premium Security Suite, AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium und Classic
* Support Windows Vista 32 Bit
* Support Windows XP x64
* New Avira AntiVir Rootkit detection (only on Windows 2000 / XP / Vista)
Because of a new driver for the rootkit detection you have to reinstall Avira AntiVir
* Popup messages have been replaced by slide ups
* Avira AntiVir detects applications in full screen mode so the updater does not cause breaks of games"
I have not seen anything else.

Mele20, you seem always so hasty. It is propable that it will be pushed as an automatic update, but we will have to wait. A typical woman, hehe.
I read something on the german forum as I understand a bit that language that it will come in time. If not I will uninstall and reload the install file.
Needs to be in admin account to do that update how ever it arrives of course and almost sure I will disable PG.
Not sure as pilotart told about needing to uninstall first though. The given information from Avira are very vague and confusing.
