View Full Version : A strange Windows error

Hello,

On one of the machines, I have found a curious little error:

If I try to open a file, like an html form local hard disk, I get the following error:

Windows cannot find 'filename'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

Most strangely: the file opens without a problem. The error shows up a few times for that file name then vanishes. Some files display no error. If I 'Search' for the file, then the error vanishes...

Strange, eh?

Any crazy ideas?

Hello,

An even crazier update:

Only html files are affected.
If I try to open them while browser is closed, then I get this error.
If I try to open them while browser is open, no error.
All files work neat, nothing is missing.

Any ideas fellas? I'm in the twilight zone .... na na na na na na na...

I would say: "Restore a fresh image right now" ;D
That´s a insanely strange error :o
IMHO, errors of this kind can only be linked to near-corrupted Windows.

Ive seen that error happening with FF 2.0.0.2 and didnt give any importance because the link actually opened correctly, this happens on a fresh windows install, may it be a FF bug?

Hello,

Lucas, I see no other errors whatsoever. Everything else works dandily. Plus, I don't know the reason for this problem. So ... unless I know the cause, I can't really know the cure ...

I considered imaging but ...

Unless I get the reason ... it could happen again ...

Regarding FF 2.0.0.2, it's possible. When was the last update?

Hello,

Research shows:

Problem limited only to FF 2.0.0.2. Opening files with any other browser - K-Meleon, Opera, IE 6 does not result in the error. Opening an html file when no FF browser window is open results in this error - file opens normally. If the browser is already open, no error.

Any ideas where I can report this?

Hello,

Already did that. Cheers.

I also think I have found the problem. I'll be testing some more to make sure I'm right. It seems that zotero extension got corrupted... I did a restore of the profile backup from about a week ago and it works fine. I'll be doing some more checking...

Why do I have to have the most banal errors?
