i purchased one 250gb external hd and partitioned it into three partitions, one for each of my laptops. i did three total image backups, one from each laptop. two of the backups went pretty fast, i think each took perhaps a half hour. the third laptop only has 10gb used compared to 50gb on my main lt yet the 3rd image b/u took over 3 hours. it acted like it was never going to complete.
any ideas why the slowness on the one system? each lt is running xp.
thanks in advance!

If you have a licenced copy of TI on each computer you will be able to make backup images from within Windows. These are normally faster than imaging when booted from the rescue CD and you should find that the relative speeds for each computer will be consistent.
You may find that recoveries, which are done in a Linux environment, may show differences in speed again. The poor performing one or ones should be reported to support and they may be able to provide improved Linux drivers.
While waiting you could create a Bart PE CD with TI plug in which as it uses Windows drivers will bring you back to speed again. Have a look in "stickies" for details.

Is it USB1 instead of 2? USB1 is 40x slower than USB2.

yup: i just checked and the two newer laptops are usb 2.0 and the older one which is used as a print server is usb 1.1. so that explains the huge difference in speed.
thanks!
