View Full Version : Snap Deploy Doesn't Support My NIC

Wess

Is there a way to load NIC drivers using the Snap Deploy agent from a boot disk? The agent does not recognize the embedded Marvell Yukon NIC on the PCs I'm working with. I get the following error when booting the agent:

ERROR: Unable to locate IOAPIC for IRQ 24

When the agent loads I am unable to configure the NIC, or browse the network. I tried this on multiple machines of the exact same hardware type and got the same results. I then installed a 3Com 10/100 NIC and it was recognized. I appreciate your input. Thanks!

Same here.

I am using a new Dell Optiplex 740 with a Broadcomm 57xx NIC. Snap Deploy agent always stays at processing... and the management console never sees the PC.
I wrote to tech support but have not heard back. Honestly, Acronis tech support is lacking greatly. We are a corporate customer and need support in a timely fashion. I believe Acronis has a good product but they need to bump up the support to compete with Symantec Imaging. Just my 2 cents.
I cannot find a way to add my NIC either... You?

We are a corporate customer who ran into this issue as well. The short answer is "We are constantly updating out driver set and will add yours as soon as possible."

We actually contacted Acronis tech support and since we were a big customer, they made us a custom boot disk with our driver within about a week or so.

There is a way to do it manually. You boot off the disk and then hit the key that enters debug mode (don't remember what this is, search the forums). You can then enter a simple linux prompt and manually add the linux driver for your NIC. It's a fairly detailed procedure though and I don't have all the information. Try looking through the forums and someone might be able to help you out.

Sorry I don't have the solution for you to follow.

I did receive a reply and a fix!
There are four files that need to be replaced.
Here is a copy/paste from my email corresondence with Acronis:
-{ Quote: "Please ask Eric to apply the below update. It will fix the problem (it installs the latest Linux kernel along with the most recent drivers for the Acronis Snap Deploy Bootable Media and applies both to the CD and PXE boot).

- Download the below archive and unzip the ramdisk.dat and kernel.dat files:

http://download.acronis.com/sl/wxqfdbeqaiynunvuvxau/support/ticket/928687/asd2.0.2105osd_s_e.zip

- Replace the ramdisk.dat and kernel.dat files located in the C:\Program Files\Acronis\SnapDeployConsole\OSDDemon\ folder with the files from the downloaded archive;

- Download the below archive and unzip the ramdisk.dat and kernel.dat files:

http://download.acronis.com/sl/puauvvxtpbhhelrnpvqk/support/ticket/928687/asd2.0.2105mic_s_e.zip

- Replace the ramdisk.dat and kernel.dat files located in the C:\Program Files\Acronis\SnapDeployConsole\ImageCreator\ folder with the files from the downloaded archive;

- Re-create the Bootable Rescue Media and\or re-upload Acronis Snap Deploy Agent and\or Acronis Snap Deploy Master Image Creator to the Acronis PXE Server.

NOTE: Please make sure that the ramdisk.dat and kernel.dat files from the asd2.0.2105osd_s_e.zip file go to the \OSDDemon\ folder while ramdisk.dat and kernel.dat files from the asd2.0.2105mic_s_e.zip go to the \ImageCreator\ folder. It is important to place files into the right folders." }-

I don't know if the links will work for you or not. If not, PM me and I will forward the files to you.
I still cannot write a Master Image File to DVD directly from the Master machine... That is my next challange!
Thanks,
Eric

OK sinbat and MHarmony, they are on the way. Two emails, one file each.
I sure hope the Acronis folks post these here soon!

BTW, I'd edit your posts and remove your email address or at least disguise it. You will get tons of junk mail by posting an email address out in the open in forums. Nothing against these forums, it applies to any and all forums. Just my two cents...
Good luck and let me know if the files don't come through...

if more people would like to have the files, I could make them available for download somewhere, I can imagine that all this mailing of these files isn't your exactly your hobby...

Apparently, I am having the same issue with SnapDeploy on some new Dell Optiplex 745 PCs with the Broadcom 57xx familiy Model 5754 NIC. I think this is a new model. I know that there is nothing wrong with the NIC because I was able to PXE boot to the SD Management server and load the Master Image Creator. However, no NIC is display in the configuration screen. I can see all local resources, but no network resources. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Why for God's sake Acronis does not create a simple tookit that allows USERS TO ADD/CHANGE/UPDATE the NIC drivers?

That would solve all these problems (especially when one can NOT even test the software due to unsupported NICs)

Another GX745 snap deploy disaster :-) Can someone please help me out by sending the files to the.severen at gmail dot com? That would be helpful in deploying our 120 workstations fresh out of the box... :D

But I honestly don't get it... why is this "driver update package" not available from Acronis Product Updates? Why haven't they made updating your own NICs a whole lot easier?

Whats funny is that the Lenovo Thinkcentre M55 (8808-94u specifically) has the same NIC chipset. I grabbed the file yesterday that fatmosh supplied but it hasn't seemed to change anything, I'm going to reboot my server and have another go. But as of right now it didn't change anything.

Does anyone have a way to add drivers to these kernel.dat and ramdisk.dat files? I guess I'm confused as to how these are linked to the drivers, do they actually contain them?

Is anyone hosting these files? Acronis support maybe? Can we get some help on this topic?

So far I'm kind of let down with the support I've been seeing on the Acronis site and forums. Other than that the product is great. I've got the snap deploy 2.0 server up and running pushing images to my M52 desktops, T60 laptops and Z61 laptops. For some reason I cannot get PXE to work but thats another story.

Edit: If someone is still sending out these files could you hit bobcrotch at gmail dot com please =)

Hi All. Here are the files. I've put them on my personal webspace.
http://www.stormband.biz/acronis/

And this is the email I got from Acronis. This worked for me with my Dell Optiplex 745 machines.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

First of all, please make sure that the build number you use for Acronis Snap Deploy 2.0 is 2105 - this is the latest one. This build can be downloaded in Product Updates section of your account:
https://www.acronis.com/enterprise/my/updates/

Then apply the patch as described below.

Please download this archive:

SnapDeploy2.0.2105osd__s_e_last.zip

and replace kernel.dat and ramdisk.dat files from the following directory with the files from the downloaded archive:

\Program Files\Acronis\SnapDeployConsole\OSDDemon

Then also download the below archive:

SnapDeploy2.0.2105mic__s_e_last.zip

Replace kernel.dat and ramdisk.dat files from the following directory with the downloaded files in the archive:

\Program Files\Acronis\SnapDeployConsole\ImageCreator

Then please recreate the CD (Acronis Snap Deploy Agent and Acronis Master Image Creator) and/or reconfigure PXE. Boot the computer from this CD or PXE (please also see if the network settings are automatically set correctly, if not, try specifying manually the network settings and also OS Deploy Server IP address) and see if the issue is fixed.

We are always at your service should you have any further questions.

Thank you.

Does anyone know if Acronis has added support for the Realtek RTL8111B NIC card? Basically experiencing the same problems as the other posters in this forum -- Master Image Creator and Snap Deploy agent display a NIC, but no ability to configure. Heck, I can't even PXE boot the target system -- I have the PXE Server running but the machine doesn't see the PXE server and times out into the boot CD.

If anyone has any fixes for this, please let me know. I will provide an email address.

I guess nevermind now.. Apparently Symantec is smarter in the fact that they allow you to integrate your own NDIS NIC Drivers into the boot disc and Network boot. Too bad because I really like Acronis's products, but I guess they need to get on the ball to keep up with competition!
I Succesfully deployed using the latest Symantec Ghost without NIC issues..

I wanted to ad that Acronis SD 3.0 doesn't support the RealTek RTL8169 driver. Same issue as described by others when trying to connect to the deployment server.

As an aside, I have to mention how extremely displeased I am with Acronis support. ~Offensive comment removed. - Ron~ Their turn around time for resolving problems is unacceptable, and unfortunately, we've had a few issues that were show-stoppers. Both have taken over a month to resolve and neither were resolved by their tech support, but instead by my trail and error.
