Somewhere on this site I found a msg that removed java VM from my system. But now I can no longer install the SUN java files.
The setup ends with an error and i cannot see java on sites anymore!
Error 1722 it says
Can someone help me with this? I would like to install either java (MS or SUN) if only it worked right.

Oops, there is the problem. There is a very cryptic error message when i double click that! In short it is not there!
I removed something this morning with a dll. I found this info on this board but cannot remember in what group!
What to do now?

Can you see if you can remove Java 2 Runtime under Add/Remove Software?
It maybe best to install it again.

Pieter

No problem about your questions, ask away! ;D
I did the automated windows download but the file arrives corrupt.
Proble is I use the Dutch version of windows so i have to puzzle a bit to know what to do.
I erased the software again via tools and await your response. It can be that I can tackle this as late as next sunday.
I'm very busy at the moment!

Hi Frans,
I think this is the safest way to go:
On this site: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
Under:
Download J2SE v 1.4.2_02
Find:
Windows Offline Installation
Click the Download link in the JRE column and follow instructions.
Once the download is complete, boot into safe mode (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406) and run the downloaded file.

Pieter

In another post I complained that mozilla and opera wouldn't work and I couldn't understand why. Well the problem was a corrupted Sun java 1.4.---------- I tried two different times to reinstall but with the same results. To get to the point in possible reference to this post, I couldn't get java 1.4. to keep working but when I installed java 1.3.---- it has worked perfect since install. About a week now. Maybe 1.4.1 has a problem on some machines ???

I can confirmed with bigc
Apparently on some windows machine the sun java 1.4.1 or 1.4.0 will not install and will complicate the java.
This information was posted on the sun java website... if I had the link I would post it with the information on how to install it.

Downloaded several versions (on advice from SUN) but none of these can be run in safe mode!
Any other ideas?

Could it be possible that some program in mij register is making this installation of JAVA impossible?
F.I. mij Spyware guard runs but is not visible in my taskbar!
The filemanager tells me it is running!
Shall I publish my hijackthis logfile?
Just an idea? Any takers?

Hi Frans,
Do you have a CD for your OS?
If so, please try:
Start > Run > type or copy&paste sfc /scannow
Windows will check the most important files of your OS for Version and if they are corrupted. If you need to replace any it will prompty you for the CD.
HTH,
Pieter
PS I don't mind going over your log, but I don't think it will help in this case.

Problem with Java solved.
The solution was to install an older version and update from there.
Thanks for the golden tip!
Thanks to all who did think with me to come to this solution.
