Hello,

A quick question:

I'm writing now an article that includes a short movie. I've been playing with video format, transcoding using VirtualDub and VLC and also converting to flash using ffmpeg.

I noticed that XviD offers better quality than .flv format, even a supposedly lossless transcoding, even though .flv has about 50% more bytes.

Of course, there's the option of me being dumb. Does anyone have any tips for making movies and formatting, flash in particular? Except the above solutions?

you can use wink.

click on the arrow (in the above link) to see a really, really short demo showing how you can write stuff showing directions. it's cross-platform. here's something about it -

While this might not be exactly what you're asking for but the best transcoder IMO is Mediacoder - http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/ Windows, and Linux under Wine.

Best screen video recording - Windows - CamStudio - http://www.camstudio.org/ The output especially avi needs to be transcoded with xvid to reduce the file size while keeping great quality. For Linux Xvidcap - http://xvidcap.sourceforge.net/

Hello,
Well I did a lot of experimenting. Now, I'd like to try to create a flash player...

Hello,
Any great ideas for converting .flv to .swf or .avi to .swf?

Hello,
All done well.
I now have all the required conversions and formatting. I have even created an embedded flash object ... you'll see soon.... hooah!
