Since 14/02 my free version of BitDefender is unable to perform manual updates to the signatures (I don't use automatic update). The following dialog box pops up :
"The BitDefender Update module was unable to contact the upgrade server. Please check your connection and try again."
I use it as backup scanner to NOD32, but one more day of this and it will be bid farewell. Uses over 25 MB memory on my computer.
Anybody experienced the same updating problem ? Is this version still being widely used ?
Regards.

I believe all versions from v7 onwards are still receiving ongoing updates. A suggestion: Can you find out which upgrade server is being used for updating?

Thanks for the reminder ! Have changed primary upgrade location from default to "http://upgrade1.bitdefender.com" and was able to update (remote port 213.150.62.119). However I am not sure whether the signature count and engine number have changed. I have sigs. 420977 and engine 7.11371 - I seem to recall having these numbers before this update. If time is on your side could you kindly confirm whether these are the latest ?
Your opinion of BD as backup on-demand scanner ? :-\

I am not using BD currently, and hence cannot help you on this matter. Besides, I have a license for the Pro edition of BD, not the free edition. The signature count in the Pro and Free edition are different due to the spyware detection ability in the pro version.
But tracking the updates so far, I think BD has not updated properly. You might want to try again, or use http://upgrade.bitdefender.com or http://download.bitdefender.com as the upgrade servers.
