View Full Version : ATI10 takes an insane amount of time to comply with rules....

I have setup rules for backup locations under TI10 and it has been working most of the time. Sometime a new full image doesn't get generated by the scheduled task with the option to generate a new full image after X incremental set. But that can be easily worked around by having a second schedule to force create a full backup.

But the main issue that I have with the product is the insane amount of time to service Backup location rules. I have age rules and location quota rules for my backup locations. I can see that the rules are being checked and complied with. However, ATI10 needs an insane amount of time to comply with the rules! It takes an average of around 1hr 20min to delete (or rather combine) a single incremental updates to a full backup to main the age quota (size of full around 80G, size of incrementals 500MB-4GB). And this doesn't really depends on the size of the full and incrementals!

And it takes only 40mins max to create full images!

And it gets worse. Today, I had 2 rules violations (age and quota). Guess what! ATI10 treats them the real stupid way: INDEPENDENTLY! So it detected there are 2 violations and performed first a combine operation to satisfy the age rule which took 1.5hrs. And now it is performing a delete operation to satisfy the quota rule. I am looking at the ETA of 2hrs+......

This is just nuts!!!!!

And this is on Vista x64 RTM Ultimate.
Machine spec for reference:
Intel Core2Xtreme X6800
4GB DDR2-800
Asus P5B Deluxe
Vista drive: WD Raptor 150GB
Data drive: Seagate 320GB 7200.10 SATA2
Backup location: Seagate 750GB 7200.10 SATA2

Additional information:

It seems that to comply with the backup location space quota rule,
ATI10 tries to combine the incrementals one by one to see when the quota will be satisfied. So if I have a full backup of 70GB, incremental of 4G, 500MB, and 100MB, and the location quota is exceeded by 30GB, ATI10 will do combine and delete operations 3 times before it deletes the whole tree.

Who even does the rule enforcement algorithms should be shot........

Hello mlai,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).

We are sorry for the delayed response.

Please make sure you use the latest build (4940) (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/updates/) of Acronis True Image 10.0 Home (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/features.html). To get access to updates you should first register (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/registration/) your software.

Please notice that the possible reason for that slow perfomance may be lack of free space in on the system partition (as consolidation uses the Windows temp folder).

If the issue persists after freeing space, please collect some information to let us investigate it thoroughly:

Please create Acronis Report and Windows System Information as it is described in Acronis Help Post (http://wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=55317).

Please also collect the log of operation:
- run the program;
- select Show log on the toolbar or from the Tools menu;
- select the corresponding log;
- click "Save the log entry to file" (the diskette icon).

Then submit a request for technical support (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/my/support/). Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with a solution.

Thank you.
