Which is the best free one? I am setting up a new computer for my grandparents and need to put a free av on.

Avast, easy to maintain, good detection.

not there are other choices. Avira isn't there yet, neither is AVS, and AVG is a bit below these.

The Active Virus Shield website says "Coming Soon - Active Virus Shield for Vista"

I second that. By the way MWAV (scan & clean) is the best free ondemand AV for Vista now.
