What firewalls are light compared to Comodo?

Gee, I dumped ZA because it is bloated and installed Comodo because compared, it's really light. What firewalls are light compared to Comodo? :)

The new pc tools firewall which is based on look'n'stop is quite light. Dynamic security agent is also quite light.

Sygate is very light on resources, 5.6.2808 is the final version of this superb firewall.
It would probably be a good idea to protect it with peerguardian or similar.

i try many firewalls and free good one and light in resources is jetico 1 and kerio 2.1.5. ghostwall is good too and free but don't have an outbound protection.

a paid one is look 'n' stop...

Kerio 2.15 for me is been the lightest and most solid firewall i ever found. I like it so much that i still use it even with KIS6 which has it's own and thankfully so far no conflicts with either.

@twl845 - my preference goes to jetico, but u may want to try the firewalls yourself.

Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't seen any talk about Outpost for a while. Has it fell out of favor? I'm going to stick with Comodo at least until ver. 3 to see how that works out with the HIPS and sandbox.

You could stay with Comodo. I am running it too currently. It is a really wierd firewall with no decent knowledgbase, the forum consists only of "fans" and almost none with any real information.
As for myself, I liked to make a tutor, but since lacking technical knowledge given and all I can say Comodo is really a wierd firewall. duh.

For lighter ones, some like kerio 2.1.5 or Sygate, well, they are nice ones and also straightforward. They have good forums too.

Jarmo - I agree with respect to lack of real easy access knowledge base. I searched around for a month getting enough info to decide whether to install it or not. The forum moderators will help you, but I get the impression it's not run too efficiently. Nice guys though. So far, even though I'm a noobie to firewalls I haven't had any real problems. CPF runs nicely. I kind of sensed that Kerio is a pretty good one, not hearing any bad stuff. I'll keep it close to the vest in case I need it. ;D

I am presently running Kerio on one computer and Comodo on another. I think I will switch to Comodo when the Kerio subscription runs out. I had a small problem with the previous version of Comodo, but this one seems fine and stable. I have had problems with Kerio not loading and having to put it in the Windows Startup Menu. This was Kerio's tech support's advice 6 months ago and no update since.

The builds for Syagate 2710 are probably the last ones for the released version/s. The builds for those above were probably some sort of Beta. All of these were probably never release by Sygate. the last version of Pro might have fixed the Proxy problem with Sysgate. All might have defects that affect the operateing system. Just be careful with this.

The build 5.5.2710 Pro was the last one released by Sygate. It has no XP SP2 security center recognizion. That not needed in my opinion.
After that Sygate made a change of policy and released free versions one or 2 but not Pro same time. Those had that security center recognizion but did not work without users experiencing some problems. So consider them betas.

These latest versions might have corrected those problems both to Pro and Free versions. So you might try them if you feel you need the security center recognizion. Myself, when I want to run SPF, the version 2710 is just fine for me.
Sygate free 5.5.2710 is the same as pro version as far as i know without a few extras the pro has like intrusion detection.

No, a total rewrite of a firewall code would had been necessary.
Sygate when run with local proxy software like proxomitron and also with an antivirus like Avast with a local proxy for http and email scanning proxy will loose outbound control to some degree..

Other than that it is a nice firewall. I could recommend it to anyone now running win XP SP2 firewall.
Since it is a mature product and no problems if not running any localhost proxies. And then only that outbound loss of controll. From my guide in my signature you can read more how it works and where to download releases.

I am more into running kerio 2.1.5 these days, but that is just me and kerio 2.1.5 is not a newbie firewall ;) It is not a difficult firewall at all. But one has to take time and study to make working rules for it.

Kerio 2.1.5 is a sweet firewall. It is unfortunate there is no updated version for the coming years. Just updated and not changed in any other way.
Combined with a free SSM, it does tha job perfectly.

I'm running it now. It's a great firewall, i should have just tried it first and foremost. That's just life for ya, now i look back, and see i wasted time toying with other security applications. It was fun, but i'm tired now. Sometimes revisit other programs, but i don't see myself going on another frenzy.
I should have tried Kerio before. I doubt it's any better than Comodo, but it's very intuitive, that's a plus right there. It does what is needed, and very well. Yes, it looks light compared to Comodo, but not too clear. Comodo didn't drag my pc at all. Maybe it's just the feeling, maybe it really runs faster.
It appears to be near it's death with IPv6 and some other things (that i don't grasp, don't ask me).

Recommending a firewall depends on the expertise of the user, so for the original poster of this thread windows firewall matches his expertise perfectly. Easy to use, no thinking needed.

I recommend you to use Comodo.
Why? Because it gives you a great protection, they are always improving it and you have a great support, all for free.
Can any other firewall have these all?

Appears Comodo has some problems of their own that needs to be dealt with before being crowned the king
