Seems to be a(nother) case of credit bureaux trying to make money out of a service that can be obtained for minimal cost. Depending on credit legislation where you live, you should be able to obtain a credit report for minimal or no expense (US readers see here (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/edcams/freereports/psa.html) and UK readers here (http://www.advice-4-debt.co.uk/credit-reports.htm)). If you believe that you have been a victim of identity theft in the US, you can place a Fraud Alert (http://www.consumer.gov/idtheft/con_steps.htm) on your report which then prevents any new accounts being opened in your name without further verification.

Yes, I agree!

What happened here (in the media) is a mutual fund company "lost" 400,000 client records between Montreal and Toronto via a hard drive!

Who moves data by hard drive! I was on that drive.

The credit bureau phone lines are plugged up!

I've done all I can including escalate to higher management to see exactly what info of mine was on that drive!!

More later

Thanks, it does help!

I heard back today finally from the Fund company, only 3 pieces of information were on that data base relating to me. My account number, now changed, their account number now changed,

AND my sin number which is the same as the ssn in the usa.

What the bad guys could do with that number alone I don't know.

Does anybody know?
