I want to have a backup (clone) HDD & also maintain incremental backups. Do I need 2 different HDD's to do this? In other words would the best approach be to clone my HDD to my spare internal HDD & do incremental backups to my USB HDD? Then update the cloned HDD as needed?

Another question, do you need to uninstall the trial version before installing purchased version? I installed over the top of the trial version & it still thinks I have the trial version. I was hoping to save my scheduled incremental backup tasks.

Thanks in advance for the help....

If you want to be up and running in the shortest time possible, then Cloning to the internal will do that, but you have to disconnect or remove the clone once the process is done - as per Acronis instructions. Putting that cloned drive in a rack/tray system will make it easy to do the removal. In any case it is advisable to keep a cloned or any backup drive removed from your system and in a safe place. Personally I do not like incrementals or differentials since I have the space to do several full backups on a usb drive.

Hello srt4backup,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).

We are sorry for the delayed response.

Please notice that cloning and creating a backup are two different procedures. For detailed explanation please refer to this article (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/kb/?aid=475) as well as respective User's Guide (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/download/docs/).
Incremental and differential backups can be created only when you have a full backup (not a clone) and can only be stored to the same folder where the full backup is located (that folder can span over several CDs/DVDs though). For detailed information on incremental and differential backups please refer to this article (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/resource/solutions/backup/2005/incremental-backups.html).

Thank you.
