I have gone to the new Microsoft website and tried to download the Office Service pack 1, which has two components. Both times the download failed, apparently because the connection was timed out as idle by the ISP. With a 2 hour download, how can I get this job done? ???

You might try using a download manager like Flashget or one of the others to help a little. GetRight has a setting to ping the server every so often to keep your connection alive also, while you are downloading. It has trialware that should work for you well enough to download this one file.
Also, to get around timeouts by your ISP, set your email client to check for new mail every 7 or 8 minutes. That always worked for me when I was on dialup.

Thanks for the ideas. I took the easy way out and ordered the free CD's from Microsoft. ;) Paul

Hi pduffey, Try looking through some of the PC mags CD/ DVDs as up until 3 months ago most good mags had it on their covers - Unfortunately MS has disallowed them doing it now.
PS how is it you posted an 13 hours 20 mins after / before me :)

Are you on the other side of the International date line? I checked my computer date and time, and currently both are accurate. :D

Your last post was fine but look at the time stamps for your previous post - Not worried about it, just noticed it that was all ;D

:) Everyone needs a little help now and then! (Glad to do it.)
Microsoft Office Updates (http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/default.aspx)
Microsoft Service Packs (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=FH;LN;sp&)
These are free provided that you own and use Microsoft products. ;D
