On advice from a friend, and against my better judgement, I downloaded folder lock to secure my documents. This program:
1) Did not secure anything. My docs were still able to be accessed.
2) Had a very limited trial version that was not made clear on the website.
3) Could not be completely uninstalled, even in safe mode. The program made itself into a system folder. Had to do a system restore. Thanks to this forum I made sure I had numerous restore points.
Being a self-admitted novice, I am wondering if anyone had a similar experience with folder lock.

While having no experience with that particular program, just thought I'd mention Free HideFolder 1.5 ( http://www.cleanersoft.com/hidefolder/free_hide_folder.htm ).

Never had a problem with it and it's suitable for merely keeping given folders "hidden" from casual observation by the non-initiated.

If you want seriously "hidden", d/l and learn to use TrueCrypt. Pete

Thanks my friend, I will take a look at it. I really should have come here first before downloading that Folder Lock crap. My bad.

Thanks for the tip.. I also tried Free Hide Folder, and it does exactly what I want, easily and safely.
Good call.
