Anyone know if there is a free software program that will take a screenshot off a DVD?

Most are capable but you may have to temporarily turn off hardware acceleration to do it. Here is a thread of recommended screen capture apps currently being discussed... http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=162560

To change hardware acceleration...
Go to Control Panel | Display Properties | Settings | Advanced | Troubleshoot
Note where the slider is currently set, then slide the Hardware Acceleration to "None". When finished, go back to the slider and set it back to where is was before.

**Oh, and FWIW, many PC-based DVD player programs offer screen capturing built in.

like han said, most players have built in screen capture functionality, alot of times you just have to look for the feature, it may not be obvious at first. what player are you using?

Have been playing with VLC, http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ . Plays most formats without additional codecs including DVD. Much liter then WMP and has the ability to capture screenshots. I`m sure there are others but as of now I give it :thumb: :thumb:

Maybe you could have a look at CamStudio (http://www.camstudio.org/).
It's free. :)

I haven't used it, since I already have SnagIt & Camtasia Studio.
The last one named isn't cheap either. :-\

Media Player Classic (one file application) does the job well. :thumb:
