Publishing candidly i must, AND equally being a fiercely devoted Lavasoft online volunteer as i was at one time, and a tireless worker at that, i have to say it's been a long time coming.
What remains to be seen is if they (Lavasoft) have taken a newer & more determined course than the one they left behind, including a once wide-open forum to handle customer users both free and commercially licensed.
I worked with some of the most friendliest and i have to admit, intelligent volunteers who never drew a single penny from them, but advanced that product even in excess of the engineering departments efforts. For that i am eternally grateful, but they certainly made sure they took a back seat to almost every single AS that existed not to mention turned a blind eye to the honest concerns the inside volunteers tried desperately to bring to their attention.
Well, that was then and this is now. Being one if not THE most popular AS programs circulated around the globe for a time, all eyes are going to be focused on what is proposed to be distributed to end users/customers now.
Without a doubt AAW is fallen woefully behind the times and tumbled from it's former respectability to something rarely if ever mentioned anymore except those who been trapped or coerced in an endless circle of addressing product issues as well as expecting expert attention that fell far short from a business who was supposed to be an industry leader of sorts in their field.
Personally i harbor no ill will or sour feelings for them seeing the multitudes of developers who have stepped up and over their poor limitations, but as mentioned, remains to be seen if this, (another) announcement pans out to be a publicity move only for them or if this time they really delved into improving not only their product but taken the steps people have long expected from them in addressing their issues HONESTY or not.

It was high time they had made something better than the current one . I haven't used Ad-Aware for months since they had update problems .

There are not any "technologies" announces in the press release worth the wait:
-Incremental updates. A must-have today.
-Added scheduler. Another must-have.
-Better GUI. Important to few people, but it generates sales :P
-Improved Ad-Watch. Who cares; it isn´t available in the free version and real time AS isn´t the way to go.
-Enhanced Code Sequence Identification. Wonder how good is it.
The best wishes to pioneer Lavasoft, although I´m not holding my breath.

Ad-Adaware - bah.
Just about useless except for the odd traking cookie.

I haven't use Ad-Aware in months, and before that all it was good for was tracking cookies. I was always hoping for a update that actually meant I would detect something with AD-Aware.

I haven't used Ad-Aware in years, or any other adware/spyware tools for that matter, but it's always interesting to see what new develpement brings to the table in the malware fight.

I disagree, people often bash Ad-aware, and I'll be the first to admit it's not the best, but when cleaning an infected machine I have found it to find remnants and registry entries on occasion that other 'top' AS scanners have missed. It may not have the same levels of detection as other AS scanners, but for those it can detect- it cleans very thoroughly, in my experience.

This reflects my experience as far as cleaning up orphaned reg values etc leftover by the main players nowadays.
It will be interesting to see how the *new technology* pans out, which packers they can unravel, whether or not they hook the kernel for detection&cleaning/self protection etc
So pointless for folks to judge until it has arrived.

It is not yet available from the beta site but you can register to try the beta when it is available some time later:
http://www.lavasoft.com/support/securitycenter/beta_applications.php
It is a revamped beta site and all previous registrations were gone. I need to re-register again to log in to the site.

Hello Chubb,
Thanks for supplying the beta testing link, I have made an application. Ad-aware certainly has a lot to live up to and a lot to prove now that there are many more competitors out there.
It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months. I say months as I cant see it being released as a final for a while yet, since it will have to be beta tested first and its not yet available for beta testing at the moment. So "available soon" means a while yet - sometime in 2007! But I look forward to trying it out all the same when it is released for beta testing. 8)

Flashback to Feb 2006:
Lavasoft website: Ad-Aware 2006 is in "Intensive Development."
Ad-Aware 2006 "includes fast and reliable scan engine, real-time protection, and scheduling."
Now that is revolutionary::) ::)

IMHO, and i'm not leaning toward bias even though after having become quite distant from them & that old Ad-Detector, AAW is fell so far backwards compared to today's ACTIVE! Leaders, that it's impossible for them to make any real impact in this field.
However since they do pride themselves on satisfying their Corporate base mostly anyway, that seems a likely target audience for AAW.

That's right. Look at the cover, ignore the pages within 'cause you're going to be disappointed with years old technology that barely evolved from the present product.
"VIP Beta Testing Phase" = the thing is not even close to being done. They have only been working on it since early 2005.
Lavasoft is like Budweiser. Lots of people consume it even though it's not very good.
If Ad-Aware 2007 is a great product, I'll be the first to come back and apologize for the bashing.
But I'm pretty sure that Ad-Aware 2007 will be a slight evolution of the current product (which is desperately outdated) which they will tout as being something great.

Based on the countdown link it looks like it might just might offer some sort of real time protection. And I aint talking that stupid AdWatch either. :P

I was a HijackThis Specialist AND Mod at their forums before they closed.
That wretched Ad-Watch hosed a lot of users machines and we never could get the code team to make the changes that was so desperately needed back then. Needless to say a lot of users were turned away by that alone.
I never did trust AdWatch myself and refused to even use it. I guess they feel time heals all wounds but a lot of users who got slammed by them are like elephants who will never forget, and who can blame them?
Besides, there are too many other BETTER anti-spyware programs where they don't turn their back on issues but go heads up after them to correct difficulties in their programs.
Lavasoft is definitely not one of them IMO. >:(

Short and to the point. Loyal users no doubt can expect to remain in indefinite stand-by mode while efforts are put forth to fashion aaw for the next release.
Remains to be seen what will come of this. I venture to speculate that as long as Wilder's readers are included in beta-testing then some positive improvements for it are in the offing.
Let's track this progress and see just what developments come about from that announcement.

Easter,
Instict told me not to use Adwatch after just a few trys with it. It made things not work right I guess you could say even unstable. I never could understand it. I am only a little savy on PC systems always learning though. Caused me to reboot but never messed me up that badly. Still what a total waste of money. :-[
Poorest security investment I ever made AdAware Plus :(
Best security investment I ever made BOClean :) I think it more then made up for it.

Many like myself have long since distanced ourselves away from that program completely when they went suddenly haywire by dropping the support forums along with canning some very intelligent and hard working volunteers who only had the users best interest at heart as well as the program itself.
Be that as it may it was no matter as anyone can plainly attest to today, other better programs overtook the popularity of AAW and have advanced onward with a loyal following by listening to even the gripes of their users and making improvements to everyones satisfaction. They take seriously user issues and see to it a users good system is not put at risk with either malware or their own program.
