Hi,

I installed this AV on my old Desktop computer, and notice that every time after the auto-update it appears a window with AntiVir ads...

Can we avoid this or is the price we have to pay for this free version ???

Thanks

yes they can be removed,

go to control panel > ad/remove > un-install antivir

that should fix it ;D

Well it removes the pop up ads :)

To the original poster, just use avast or avg, no pop ups, no nonsense, just good viral protection.

It also leaves the OP with no Antivirus. :)

Yes but it resolves the issue of removing the ads ;P

Londonbeat posted good links, one simple security setting and have not seen a single AvNotify (or warning about FireWall) since March on my Main System, thanks to all who have provided useful information on the subject.

I do allow AvNotify on my Backup System, so I do get to see it four or so times a month, that is often enough to enjoy it.

On the Main System it had been four or more times a day and that was overkill.

i have never tried this (i am using antivir premium), but here is some info that i saw posted, about stopping antivir-classic's popup-ad (for what it is worth):

Antivir Tweaks

To disable the AntiVir startup splash screen find the autostart registry entry, probably located in something like HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run... Add '/nosplash' (without quotes) at the end.

To disable nag screen create the following registry entry at the following location:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Safer\CodeIdentifiers\0\Paths\{3f4dabe0-8061-4eb3-8ae7-265a4c579700}]
"Description"="Disable avnotify.exe nag screen"
"SaferFlags"=dword:00000000
"ItemData"="C:\Program Files\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avnotify.exe"

In administration tools, right click on local security settings/software restriction policies/additional rules and set a new hash rule for avnotify to "disallowed". This worked for me when I used antivir.
