I'm looking for a good antivirus that I can put onto a USB stick and run it in safe mode on a PC, any suggestions and links.

For my stick that is not an U3 compatible drive I use clam av: http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/clamwin_portable
Hope it's good for you, but I must recognize that I have never scanned with it in SafeMode.

I'm not too sure, its called mcafee stand alone virus scanner. I download the latest version each week to scan with. The latest version (2006/12/15) has 220919 viruses, trojans and variants in its database.

Can you please tell us where exactly you get this mcafee stand alone scanner?
I have honestly never heard of it, aside from stinger. I am very curious because I have great trust in mcafee's signatures.

I actually download it from the edskes file download mirror website which has a whole bunch of codec packs and other useful programs freely available for download.
http://mirror.edskes.net/
You'll find it about 3/4 of the way down the page.
Strangely enough i cannot find this particular on demand scanner on the mcafee website so i do wonder where this website gets it from.
