The problem is that I cant determine which programs I want to enable or disable at startup...

When I refresh, they always appear to be enabled, even after deleting the entry...

I tried several startup applications, but none of them work...

Hi rlesko,

Your OS? Program's? Deleting entries from where? You've tried which app's?
On limited detail's, may I suggest ....

Description and Startup advice - http://www.castlecops.com/StartupList.html

Managing Startup - http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Startup.htm

More Management - http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/startup.htm

Program Loading - http://www.aumha.org/a/loads.php

Startup Tracker (program) - http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_starttrack.htm

Not familiar with this one yet, but downloaded and will see for myself.
From experience, his other offering's are proven performer's.

Windows XP Professional...
I tried TuneUp Utilities 2006 StartUp Manager, Autoruns and one more but I don't know what's the name...

How do I start Windows' startup manager...?
Can I enable a program that's not on the list?

Ah, you just needed some time. Tell us, was it Startup Tracker that did the trick?

-{ Quote: "Everything fixed...

Yes, I disabled Ad-Watch and did everything with StrtupCPL

Sorry... I forgot my manners...
Btw, I didn't even know Ad-Watch could interfere with something like start up...

No problem's rlesko. ;)

Installing new soft one at a time then noting system/use subtleties over the course of a few day's is not a bad rule of thumb to follow. Now under the reign's of M$ I'm not so quick to recommend Regmon, an excellent tool to observe behavior such as program interference. Use of the standard XP altenative msconfig would have keyed you in all the same. Though like most other worthwhile endeavor's, it require's patience.

On the follow-up .... Startup Tracker record's instances from the registry, user start folder, list's both currently running processes and services. The unlicensed version does NOT control startup's! Main requirement's are the VB6 runtime's which I think all version's of XP ship with. For the majority of home system's this would be perfect for upload (troubleshooting purposes) as it develop's a clipboard output easily under 100kb.

Screenie - There's not much after this. It's a scrollable result's window with an option to open the clipboard content's via text file.
