One disk - Two OS's - How?

I need a clean install of WinXP in a second partition on my C: drive. How the new installation of WinXP identify the second partition as C: disk and not as other letter. Is there any tutorial I can get?

Create your new partition.
Make it active.
Reboot on install CD and install.
That should do it.
In worst case, hide first partition.

Acronis os selector will do the rest as for booting.
