Checkdisk and Defrag from Bootable Media (USB)

Today I purchased Disk Director 10 attempting to solve bad sectors on my hard drive. The MBR is good, but windows will not load and a Dell diag program shows bad sectors on the READ test. I figured Disk Director 10 would due the trick, however after purchase I realize that it uses the windows files to check disk and cannot check disks unless loaded on top of windows. I need help!!
Does anyone know of a program that will scan and fix bad sectors from it's own boot disk? I am running Windows XP and booting from an USB memory stick.

the manufacturer of your hard disk may have their own (floppy or cd bootable) utility for scanning your disk.
