In an effort to improve its corporate reputation, adware company Gator has launched a legal offensive to divorce its name from the hated term "spyware"--and so far its strategy is paying off.

Hi, my personal non-endorsed (and free of charge for now)opinion is that Gator is spyware. Barf on it. >:(

There's not enough room to post all the points that tick me off about Gator's spin of the terms "adware" and "spyware", plus their effort to "educate spyware-removers" by suing them. >:(

Detox is correct, of course.

Let's get the semantics out if the way: Gator is not merely "adware". If Gator forces the public to invent a new term to describe its service, who says it must be flattering? Anyway, "Gator-ware"* sucks and I will always avoid it.

*Edit: How about "Big Brother-ware" or "Tattle-ware" or "Monitors What You Do-ware"? Some clever person should be able to think of something that will catch on. ;)

Whatever way they try to twist it, the term spyware is correct in the purest sense for most of their bundled, unsollicited cr@pware.

Any legal complaints against this post can be filed at the nearest post-office at the NorthPole: When I see fit I will send a lawyer to fetch them.

Mmmm. Let me think. It installs programs that you don´t need, want or like. It eats away resources and it spreads through the internet.
What's wrong with treating it as a virus?

Pieter

PS @ Ari, being busy is good, but you should drop by more often. ;)

>:( Adware, Spyware, Cr@pware, Virus. It doesn't matter what you call it. It does what it does, and it is what it is. Gator is pure BS, and everyone with the common since that God gave little green apples knows it. They may be trying to change their image, and they may succeed, but only for the newest computer generation. Those of us who have been around for a while know the truth. So my friends, spread the word!!!
