Microsoft Calls Raxco

We received a phone call from Microsoft 10 days ago with the news we had been expecting since Microsoft acquired Winternals this summer - Defrag Manager is being retired. When the acquisition occurred, we were very confident it wasn't for the Defrag Manager product. And the phone call confirmed this. Microsoft also told us that they wanted to offer an enterprise defragmentation solution for their former Winternals customers. And PerfectDisk, as a Microsoft Gold Partner, fit that need. So last week, Microsoft notified Defrag Manager users that the product was being retired, and they were directed to Raxco Software's web site and PerfectDisk as an option going forward. We issued a press release today, per Microsoft's recommendation.

Winternals, as many of you know, produced several great utilities for system administrators. The Defrag Manager product was never one of its core offerings. Most administrators who evaluated Defrag Manager and PerfectDisk would tell us that PerfectDisk did a more thorough job defragmenting drives. One thing Defrag Manager did have that PerfectDisk did not, prior to the release of PerfectDisk Version 8.0, was a decent central console for managing defragmentation across the enterprise. With the release of PerfectDisk 8 and the new Command Center, PerfectDisk now has a central console plus a whole lot more for Defrag Manager users. That is why, since the Microsoft acquisition of Winternals, and even moreso with the release of PerfectDisk 8, our phones have been ringing daily with calls from ex-Winternals' customers inquiring about PerfectDisk. With Microsoft's announcement, we expect the activity to pick up even more.

We are happy to work with Microsoft to provide Defrag Manager users a new home for their enterprise defragmentation needs.
