How many hrs A-Squared finished scan

How many hrs did it take for your 40Gig drives to finished the full scan of A-Squared free? Coz I always cancel it, it seems that it takes very long hrs to finished its job doing full scanning. I only uses the smart scan. :-[ :'(

Here a 'Deep Scan' takes about 20 -25 minutes on a 60 GB disk with 40 GB of files. It also depends how much compressed files you have.

My drive is 75GB, I think the deepest scan is only like a half hour. I always find ASquared to be pretty fast in scanning.

Do you have only ONE internal harddisk with everything on it ?

I don't know how long it takes. When I want to do a scan, I start it at bedtime. When I awaken a few hours later (my prostate sends me a "go NOW!" message) the scan is finished.

A full scan takes about 20 minutes for me.

I didn't keep notes on the scan time from Friday.
I did the Deep Scan and I know that took at least 45 minutes,probably longer.
My computer has loads of documents on it though.

Sorry to say Sweater, but I think we may be looking at a resource overload. This may be a hardware issue more then a software issue. Combine that to a (lesser degree) with a lot of files and there lies the slowness. Might also be related to the amount of processes already running in the background as well.

Most people forget to deactivate their anti-virus program before starting the scan. A-squared opens every file on your hard disk several times to scan them. Each file open will result in a scan by your anti-virus if its monitor is still active. So in fact every file is not only scanned by a-squared but your anti-virus too which slows down the whole scan a lot. So always stop your anti-virus before starting a full scan ;).

That's good advice Andreas.

I routinely de-activate all monitors when scanning with another security program.

Longer scan times are a fair tradeoff for a thorough scan IMO.

20 upto 60 minutes for just one scanner. Any idea of the total time of all your scanners ?
This should be an interesting poll : "How much time do all your scanners spend on a full scan. ;D

This is what I'd recommend to people who can't stand waiting for scanners to finish:

-Defragment/Compress information on your drive. Windows XP's Disk Defragmenter does a great basic job of this. This cuts down scan time by a certain amount (and on the plus side, it speeds up PC performance speeds).

-Scan your computer when you're not doing anything much or important, and get off the internet. Let the Computer run while your like watching TV or something. Rent a movie or something, watch your favorite series, whatever. Better yet, sleep.

And time should pass by pretty quick. The scanner should display results after a few good hours and ask you what to do with them (unless its like a Avast! scanner type, where it asks you what to do in the middle of detecting it). All should go well, and check back every few 30 minutes to see what file type its on (c drive files, program files, etc.).

Me, I just like watching and monitoring my scanning at the moment. But eventually, I get tired and lay my head down for like 5 minutes each. Time passes by quickly. For reference, my scan of 8 GBs of memory space (yeah, I'm conservative on my 20 GB drive) takes about 40 minutes on a fully defragmented medium and also with very little programs running (except for the background programs). Not bad, if you ask me.

So you scan your computer with 6 scanners and that takes 40 minutes in total.
1. Avast! Antivirus
2. Spybot Search & Destroy
3. Windows Defender
4. Ad-Aware SE
5. A-Squared
6. Ewido Anti-Spyware
That is an average of 7 minutes per scanner. Not bad indeed and I won't tell my total scan time, because it would make you depressive. :)

Lol ... Ehhh ... Well, I should of been more clear. I ment that it took around 40 mins. for EVERY program scan ... (I guess that kills the impressiveness of the 7 mins >_<` ...)

Anyway, its still not bad, right ? Takes around like ... Uhh ... Never mind. I think scan time will increase in time, as defs get updated and such. I just hope that it will be improved. I don't truly have that much time on my hands. Ahh well, the time we pay for security.
