View Full Version : SUPERAntiSpyware 3.3 Pre-Release
SUPERAntiSpy
October 12th, 2006, 04:40 PM
SUPERAntiSpyware 3.3 Pre-Release is now available for testing. The primary focus of this release is internal technology to improve scanning time and detection/removal capabilities. All items suggested by our users are on our "wish list" and will not be forgotten.
Interface and Functionality Changes
* Option to play sound when spyware found retains proper state (checked/unchecked)
* Option to not save scan logs if no infection was found
* Option to view the scan log directly from the detection screen
* Total scan time added to scan log
* Product version added to scan log
* False positives reports now require e-mail address and description of issue
Technology Changes
* Scan time is now 30% - 40% FASTER in all scanning modes
* Rootkit detection and removal ability has been drastically increased
* Reboot not required if only cookies are detected during the scan
* Real-Time (Professional Only) and In-Memory Scans allow unlimited size to cache large installers and items that unpack to large memory images
* Resolved issue in SASSEH.DLL where the COMODO Firewall would send inordinately long strings and crash most Shell Execute Hooks
* Detected items verified to make sure they are not part of the core/original Windows installation - this ensures that no system/core components can be removed should a false-positve happen, or a malware application tries to rename/spoof items inorder to "trick" the scanner into removing a critical component (we have observed this). This feature works on Windows 2000 and above only. i.e. not on Win98/ME
* Shortcuts now use standard shortcuts instead of Windows Intaller self-healing shortcuts to allow running when the Windows Installer Service (safe-mode) is not running – repair shortcut added to programs menu to repair the installation should it become corrupt – this applies to new installations only
* Additional Safe Mode scanning enhancements
I will be updating the SUPERAntiSpyware Pre-Release topic with any changes. Please let me know any issues you experience with this release.
Important : If you would like to try the pre-release, please register on our forums (http://forums.superantispyware.com) and then PM me on our forums with your request and, if approved, I will send you the download link. You MUST uninstall any previous version before installing this version.
The pre-release will be limited to 1000 or so users. Please remember this is a pre-release - so I would not suggest running this on production or client systems as there may be new versions and require full uninstallation and re-installtion as we progress through the pre-release cycle.
Please keep the discussions for this pre-release on the SUPERAntiSpyware forums only so we can track and address any issues promptly.

Hi,folks: I am very pleased to hear this wonderful news. Not just the new release, but also(most importantly) your attitude handling this app; Nick says all items suggested by users ARE on his wish list AND will not be forgotten. I just could not believe what I saw. Since when has HI-TECH app been handled like a consumer product? Yours is probably among the first one if not THE first one to do so. As a user I am very grateful that you(vendor) do listen to us, and we,users, do have a good ears at your site. Thanks.

It has been in internal testing for some time, and so far all of our pre-release testers have not had any major issues that would prevent release - so it should be out "soon" :)

Sorry but I have to agree. The icon does look kinda cheapish. I love the product but how about a little less junky looking icon? It's a minor request and while you might not have complaints, it would look nicer.

If there is nothing left for me to do with this machine I would place the icon on my desktop and become a desktop voyeur. After that I will complain (or not) if I like the SAS icon or not.
For the time being however I am happy with SAS.

I also like the SAS icon. I think that little bug is quite cute. The SAB icon is another matter entirely. Cheap, boring, uninspiring. I mean come on! A red circle with a white X inside. That really does need addressing.

I totally agree that all that matters is the performance but in my opinion a little tweak to the desktop icon( not the tray icon) and GUI will not hurt as others agree with it.
Anyway it,s ur decision!

A good-looking GUI is the work of creativity. Why not make the next version's GUI have a Vista-like look and feel? And anyway, Vista is coming out pretty soon, Superantispyware should make the newer version(s) compatible with it too.
To me, that seems to be the best design change which can be made at this period of time. What I suggest is that release version 3.3 with no GUI changes first, focus more on the performance and detection engine, then based on users' opinion, gather more feedback and if needed, release a updated GUI together with the daily definition updates.
Seems positive to me. ;)

Do you mean the scan duration was reduced by 30%? If the scanning speed (such as bits/sec) dropped, doesn't that mean the overall time to scan would be increased (such as a drop in bandwidth speed which will make you wait longer for a download to complete)?

The time it takes to scan a system has been REDUCED/SHORTENED by 30%-40% - if a system used to take 20 minutes to scan, it would now only take 12-14 minutes to scan.

Yep I meant scanning is 30% faster.
As I run a thinned out XP pro it has dropped from roughly 3 mins to 2.:)

Nobody even said it was a big deal...you're the one who's acting like we said it was.
To clear it up, my comment wasn't referring to the bug icon, it was referring to the spy/red circle desktop icon. I just think it looks cheap, and my opinion stands.

This is going off the subject matter a bit, but with regards to icons, I was considering to add the SafeZone firewall program to a PC which has Antivir installed. Both programs use an umbrella as an icon on the system tray so having both would add two umbrellas which could make things confusing. ;D

Interface and Functionality Changes
* Scan type added to the scan log
* Scanned item counts for memory, registry and files added to the scan log
Technology Changes
* Large files executed through the shell are now properly scanned (or not scanned) so there will be no huge use of memory or slowdown when using real-time scanning
This is a "fix only" version and no more features will be added - if there are technology problems/bugs those will be addressed. This is an official release candidate." }-

Nick, a smaller detail, but could you change so that a small popup shows up when you take the mouse cursor over the icon in systray, showing the date of the latest update, instead of core/trace version or nothing. It´s easier for the end-user to check if they have the latest signatur version by just pointing to the icon (as the icon of KAV, AVG AntiSpyware e t c.)

Microsoft appears to have changed some things internally in the final release that are causing some problems on certain systems. Can you submit a support ticket here:
