I have TI build 3677. When trying to back up I get the above error, "the RPS server is unavailable. Help!

I do not recognise that particular error is it possible that you mean RPC service ? If so open admin tools services and set RPC service to auto and turn it on. It is one of the services that Ti depends on.

I forgot to say you should also check that the Acronis scheduler 2 service is also started which you will also find in Admin tools Services.
