After a scan, the results show that I am infected by Downloader.Agent.uj. When it tries to quaratine it, it says that there is an error. Looking on Google this seems to be problem others have had. Is there a way for a novice to get rid of it. I tried doing an Ewido scan in Safety mode, but it still fails to do the job.

Downloader.Agent.uj is a rootkit that ewido/avg can't remove, but they have a tool you can use to remove it, see this thread:
