I just wondered since Adaware was still getting decent reviews in some places, and SuperAntiSpyware is up and coming with decent reviews as well, which one people think is currently the best.

It will take too much time for me to figure out which one is the best.
First I have to compare both definition databases and remove the doubles.
Then I have to count the remaining definitions of both and the one that has the highest number is the best.
Since both have remaining definitions, it's logical that one of them doesn't remove what the other does, so I use both scanners for better protection.
If I use the best scanner, I will have lesser protection.

By the "best" it depends on what you are looking at.
If you are looking at support-SAS is very active.AdAware can be very good with support.Or,as in the past, they can abandon you for months.
I prefer SAS.But the obvious question with SAS is the fact that it has very little history aka it's a new program.
If you can monitor update frequencies that may tell you something.AdAware was not very frequent compared to SAS update frequency.
I'm beginning to think that the free A/S programs will only take ya' so far anyway.

I'd second that...or if you are interested you may want to take a look at Spyware Terminator (just a thought).

SAS seems to do better in most cases.
Spyware Terminator + SAS is an excellent free combo.

I've used both but i still prefer ad-aware. I've been using it for years so maybe i'm a bit biased but its always been very good at removing spyware from my system. My only gripe is the slow definition updates. Currently the last update was on 19/9/06 thats over 10 days ago!! I think the whole company must be on vacation or something....

That's one of the things that bothered me about AdAware, update frequency.

I have both softwares in my current toolbox for cleaning infected PC's as ever nothing gets all of them and the combo of the 2 would be better than either seperately.SAS always gets first bite...
That said if i had to choose one then it would be SAS handsdown but then i would have to own up to being a SAS fanboy and regular contributor towards their malware database. The more i've tested/used it the more i'm impressed by it.
A couple of the tie-breakers that seperate the 2 for me based on my own experience with them both.Adaware seems to find and clean malware that was prolific back a while but struggles against most of the new infections. The opposite is the case with more recent and entrenched infections,SAS tends to excel where adaware fails.
The 2nd tie-breaker is the update frequency thing,i've been keeping Nick S @ SUPERantispyware very busy recently with malware submissions every 1-2 days for around the last 3 months. The turn around is between 12-72 hrs usually;)
