Can this version/release be downloaded "on top of" the existing 4.21? Or should users uninstall and do a clean installation of 4.22?

EDIT: Oops, just discovered that it can be installed by shutting down and uninstalling BOClean first....

Hi JRCATES,

According to the e-mail from PSC (with 4.22 attached) and from the page http://www.nsclean.com/supboc.html, users are advised to uninstall 4.21 first before installing 4.22.

-{ Quote: "If you're REPLACING an existing version of BOClean, then you'll want to first doubleclick the traybar icon and click "Shutdown BOClean" on the button menu which appears. Then UNINSTALL the earlier BOClean from the BOClean program group on the start menu, or from the Windows control panel's "add/remove programs." BOClean should appear on the list. If your previous BOClean cannot be uninstalled, then go ahead and install the 4.22 version, then UNINSTALL it, and then finally install it again. This will remove all prior traces of your old BOClean and install the new one "squeaky clean."" }-

Wow another new version huh? Figures, I just got done building a new PC and getting it the way I want. Now I gotta uninstall reinstall BOClean. I hate it when that happens.

On topic tho, its a good thing we get updates from them, and for free! I just sent an e-mail earlier today to obtain my copy of the latest and greatest.

Thanks to Kevin and Nancy as always. ;D

The file BOC422.001 was attached in the email.
The file decode.exe was downloaded.
Both files were put on the desktop.

FanJ
September 28th, 2006, 10:02 AM
Existing BOClean was shutdown.
In add/remove existing BOClean clicked to uninstall.

FanJ
September 28th, 2006, 10:07 AM
Back to the desktop.

Double-clicked on the decode icon.
A new box opens.

Now drag that BOC422.001 (left-clicking it) into that new box.

FanJ
September 28th, 2006, 10:09 AM
A new box comes up.

FanJ
September 28th, 2006, 10:11 AM
Clicked OK, and the actual installation box comes up.

FanJ
September 28th, 2006, 10:16 AM
Clicked on INSTALL.

The new BOClean is installing.
Then it is installed.

A new box comes up.

FanJ
September 28th, 2006, 10:29 AM
You will see that the original BOC422.001 icon on the desktop is now changed into BOC422.exe

The file BOC422.exe is the actual installation file.
As adviced, it is a very good idea to save that file in case you ever need to re-install the new BOClean.

In Windows Explorer I navigated to the folder of my desktop, and from there I copied that file BOC422.exe to a safe place.

Then I removed those two icons from my desktop.

That's it ;)

Is running any registry cleaners, etc., recommended after uninstallation of 4.21 and before the installation of 4.22 takes place, or not?

Also, the BOC422.EXE icon that Jan showed on the desktop....can that be kept on the desktop, to access and open the GUI? Or SHOULD it be removed/deleted after installation?

SSK
September 28th, 2006, 07:07 PM
The BOC422.EXE file on FanJ's desktop is the original install file. I would move it to a storage place in case you need to reinstall sometime in the future! :)

Hi JRCATES,

-{ Quote: "Is running any registry cleaners, etc., recommended after uninstallation of 4.21 and before the installation of 4.22 takes place, or not?" }-

No, it is not needed.
I didn't do that on my XP-home machine.
So far everything is OK on it with respect to the new BOClean.

-{ Quote: "

That BOC422.exe icon points to the actual installation file of your new BOClean.
It is NOT pointing to the GUI.
If you want to open the GUI of your BOClean, then it is the same as it was:
Double left click on your BOClean-icon in the systray near the clock, and then click on its tab "Configure BOClean".
I hope that I did understand you right.

As for your question "the BOC422.EXE icon that Jan showed on the desktop....can that be kept on the desktop":
Of course it is your own decision whether you want to leave it on your desktop.
As I said, that icon only points to the actual installation file of your new BOClean.
If you want to locate in which folder on your system that actual file is put, right-click on it and then properties. Then you will see its location. Go to that location in your Windows Explorer; from there copy it into a safe location.

I hope this helps a little bit.

Now for the NOD32 users among us:

In the past several of us did put some of the BOClean files in the Exclusion-list of Amon.
I'm not quite sure whether that is still "needed" (that word "needed" is a little bit strong word here (excuse my poor English)).
Anyhow, if you did that with your BOClean version 4.21, then you might want to check your exclusion-list in Amon and make the appropriate changes with respect to BOC422.exe

FanJ
September 28th, 2006, 08:12 PM
Now more in general, about installing as admin:

Look at my screenshot in reply # 16
You see there that:
BOClean MUST be installed under the 'Administrator' or 'Owner' account.

Did you think of that advice while installing?

I assume that that advice is still true on the new version.

As far as I know version 4.22.001 is the latest "official" version.
Only PSC can make an "official" announcement of a newer version.
There will come a newer version (as far as I know), but until that moment all .002 versions are test-versions.

There was nothing special about the e-mail I received the file in. I never saw a mention of it being a test build but maybe it is.

This is the only thing I noticed.

BUILD: BOClean 4.22.002 contained within; "001" is the file extension.

I do not notice anything yet and am using a GEForce video card and drivers LOL

Just saw the email from PSC:

-{ Quote: "
BOClean 4.22.002 is now available. An "002 fix build" was required as a result of 24 customers who suffered anomolies with the original "001" release which resulted in problems with the updater not working correctly and screen "artifacts" as the result of code changes in the original 4.22.001 release for compatibility with the MS "Vista beta." These have been corrected and we prefer that our customers have properly working software regardless of whether 4.22.001 appeared to be OK or not.

Please read and follow the directions below to avoid delays in receiving your copy of the new BOClean 4.22 release. We want to make this as smooth as possible for everybody, and we appreciate your cooperation. SUPPORT and STAFF here are unable to send you upgrades, so please read the information below in order to get yours as quickly as possible.

To upgrade any version of our software (excluding BOClean EDS customers), please email us at upgrade@nsclean.com. In your request, please include any or all of the following: Your order number, email address at the time of purchase, full name and the correct email address to send to. Once we confirm your request, your software will arrive in a reply email. If you are certain you can receive them, we will send an EXE or ZIP ONLY if you request those formats. Otherwise, we will send an encrypted file and instructions on how to get the decoder program download from us. This is a LOT easier than it may sound.

Please set up your email program to prompt for a file attachment storage location, this will expedite file installation. Saving the decoder and encrypted 001 file to the desktop will make the process very easy. The "001" designates the "file extension" you receive. It will be the 4.22.002 version despite the "001" filename.

Be sure that your firewall is set up to permit attachments to get through and be sure your ISP does not block attachments. Some web-based services do, if you have an alternate email address it would be helpful if you include it in your email. You'll get your software faster if you do. Please be patient, requests can take up to 24 hours to fill because of the sheer volume of people who will want a copy the first couple of days. Thanks for your cooperation and patience.

For those of you who paid for the "EXTENDED DOWNLOAD" when you purchased BOClean, you don't HAVE to wait - simply grab your original order and password and go directly back to the download site, redownload the "old version" which will magically be the NEW version when you receive it regardless of what the page says. The new 4.22 version of BOClean is ALREADY THERE!

Installed the V4.22.002 "002 fix build" version using the two step method i.e decode.exe and BOC422 files (non EDS) but the systray icon failed to materialise; rebooted twice, still no icon. As a temporary measure I was able to have it appear by going into the BOClean folder and clicking the program's application exe file.

Have now reverted my drive back to before making this install and have emailed Kevin explaining the problem I encountered.

The "24" quoted were customers out of perhaps about 3000 copies delivered by the time of accumlation whereupon we STOPPED sending until we could do the proverbial "WTF?" We don't have time lately for the "groups" and so, since we provide actual support from the person who wrote the code and knows it best, rather than "fanboying" and mutual admiration, we actually work out any problems encountered. We received 24 complaints when we "stopped the presses," that's where the number came from. My bad for even mentioning it, it was intended as an explanation for "files not received yet" as well until we sorted it.

The 4.22.002 has proven to be the quality everyone had come to expect from us, so for those holding out - get yer 4.22. Somewhere around the middle of this month, 4.20 and 4.21 shall die so that we can drop the older ways of doing things and "light the candle" properly ...

But GEEZ, folks ... if you don't email *ME* about a problem, how'm I gonna KNOW about it? Ain't got TIME for forums with so many people getting infected by "free pr0n" and "cracks." :)

Re my earlier post #54 concerning no systray icon, turns out there was a hiccup in the first install attempt which resulted in BOClean being blocked from being able to write to the registry to create the necessary startup entry (HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Run). A re-install, however, was successful and the program is now running smoothly and correctly.

As usual, Kevin took time out to render prompt and helpful attention to the problem.
