New to this product have a few questions any help would be great.:)

1) With the "Storage Server" component being installed on your physical server, does the "Group Server" also get installed on the physical server?

2) Can the "Management Console" be installed on the physical server, or must it be installed on a workstation (not being imaged)?

3) What are the requirements to install the Agent? (XP Pro, ip address, domain member

4) Must the agent exist as an application on the workstation to be imaged?

5) Are there best practices regarding the initial system build for the intended image (partition number and size vs. disk size)?
6) Instead of local versions, is it best to perform clone disk directly from source to target, or by using the storage server (source to server as step 1 and then server to target as step 2)?

Its probably a good idea to install it on the same box. That way you get the option of going to the backup server or the group server upon connecting to it via the management console.

As the management console is somewhat indirectly licensed, you can install it on any PC, if its being backed up or not.

To install the agent you'll need the machine name or IP, and a user account with sufficient privileges.. Best to go with a domain admin account if you can.

In order to backup the machine in question, either the Agent or local software must be installed.

Not really. Generally a good idea to run a defrag before every full backup you do. If you're also going to have incremental backups, and degfrag the machine reguarly, then you're best off re-starting routine to start with a full backup after defrag.

As its sector based imaging, and a defrag will change alot of sectors, your incrementals can end up as or bigger then a full backup after a defrag.

I think you're getting things confused here. Cloning is typically for migrating to a new hard disk usually of equal to, or greater size. Not as a backup scheme.

If you're looking at doing a 'deployment' scenario you COULD do it the clone way, but IMHO it would be better to do it via an image scenario.
