Firefox pop-up blocking

Does anyone know of any extension to beef up Firefox's pop-up blocking? I get a few pop ups sneaking through now and again. Thanks

It is probably due to the fact that FF intentionally allows some type of pop ups as otherwise many ligitimate pop ups might be blocked as well.

ive never noticed that aigle, but now im wishing it had stronger pop-up controls. too bad adblock only blocks ads ::)

Post links to the sites where popups occur in this thread if you would. And since some popups are flash related, you could try the Flashblock (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/433/) extension.

I have checked FF pop up blocker on popuptest.com with IE6 and Opera and found FF to be the best in this regard. MY post was based upon these findings though I may be wrong.

newgrounds.com - any games or animations are opened in a pop-up. it could be flash-related but i dont want to block the flash itself, just the pop-up.

amazon.com - same as first link; large product images are opened in pop-up.



maybe these are just examples of pop-ups that Firefox purposely allows? is there a way to block all pop-ups without using a separate program (extensions are okay)?

I suppose you could block javascript, Java, and Flash and give that a try.

I don't consider this as annoying popup and you have to click on the picture to see the enlargment. That is normal to me.

When you open a website and you get an additional popup at the same time, that is annoying and that has to be blocked.

This website has a annoying popup when you open it with IE, not with FF.

while that is true, i was expecting the pop-up blocker to be non-discriminatory.

at svc.com, for example, the image pop-ups are blocked. how does firefox decide which pop-ups to allow and which to block?

I get pop-ups at compfused.com; wimp.com; jakaroo.com - siteadvisor gives these sites a red since they are mega spammers! I also just got a pop-up at whitepages.com

I know they're not flash pop-ups!

Firefox passes all the tests at popuptest.com though

try the Popup Blocker Settings extension. u can then set Firefox to block all pop-ups.

OK, all the pop-ups are from mediaclick. I usually end up with mediaclick tracking cookies; could that be the issue? I get them even though I have 3rd party cookies disabled in Firefox.

I use ad block plus & no script. They work pretty well together but nothing is 100%.

You'll get a popup when you click a popup link, which is to be expected.
However, certain sites have javascript that will popup/popunder a new window when you click a link that's not supposed to popup/popunder anything.

If you use the NoScript extension, you can whitelist sites that you trust.
Just be warned however, if you use alot of video sites (which implement WMP), your browser will crash untill you allow javasript to run on those sites.
