View Full Version : What's the meaning of the green star?

I'm a new user to TrueImage and still learning my way around the screens.
I notice that, on the "Restored Partition Location" screen, one of my hard drives has a little green star on it, while another drive has a red star. What does this mean?

I don't know, but I'd guess one is an active and bootable drive and the other isn't.

Though I wouldn't be without ATI, I must admit, it doesn't appear that they spent too long finding meaningful intuitive icons for their user interface. The one which gets me is the chequered racing flag, which everyone knows is associated with the end of something (e.g. the end of a race). However in ATI for some reason (and one which currently eludes me), it means "start" (a task).

I guess it just means they're confident that the task will complete. ;) To hold more closely to the auto race metaphor, a green flag is used in racing to start a race.

After looking at this post for a few days, I finally had to see "what I could see". My dramatic guess for the day is:
The star is a flag, why not, there are flags everywhere else.
On my partition which is a Primary and Active the flag is red.
On my partition which is just a Primary the flag is green.
On the other partitions which are probably part of an extended partition there is no flag.
If the partition is being used or is too small for the restore the drive icons and any flags are greyed out.
If I am right, then we get to the question, "Why do we need the flags?".

Just checked for myself and you are quite right about the flags on the drive icons. As to why they are needed - a good question .

Hello everyone,
Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).
Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.
As seekforever has already mentioned above, the red and green flags you noticed are used to identify the type of partition. The red flag marks the Primary Active partitions, the green one is for the Primary partitions, Logical partitions are not marked with flags.
If you have any further questions concerning Acronis software, please feel free to submit a request for technical support (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/my/support/) or post any of them on this forum. We will certainly try to help you in resolving any issues.
Thank you.
