I've set-up a profile on our server to do a complete back-up.

This works just fine BUT, each time i do a backup it's overwriting the file since they are the same file name.

Is there a way of getting Acronis to add a time/date stamp to the file name or make a new name each backup.

Hey, don't get impatient, use that time to try searching the archives -- Seek and ye shall find:

for example:

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=128324&highlight=date

and also here:

There are diff ways to do it but basically, you store characters from the system date-time in environment variables and then put the variables in the filename using a rename command in a Command window. You run the command from a batchfile as a post-command in ATI. Note that renaming isnote advised for inc backups.

Hello hobbit666,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/products/).

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

As shieber has already mentioned above, we recommend using the pre\post backup commands in order to automatically rename your backups. Please see this Acronis Public Knowledge Base Article (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/support/kb/?aid=364) providing the detailed instructions on how to automatically rename backups in accordance with the current date. You can find more information on how to use Acronis True Image in the respective User's Guide (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/download/docs/).

You can also limit the amount of backups created by Acronis True Image in three other ways:

1. Use Acronis Backup Server (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/products/ATICW/backup-server.html) feature (available in Acronis True Image 9.1 Workstation (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/products/ATICW/) and Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server for Windows (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/products/ATIESWin/) only, details can be found in Section 3.5 of the corresponding User's Guides (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/download/docs/));

2. Use Acronis Secure Zone;

The backups saved to Acronis Secure Zone are deleted automatically if required. Acronis True Image uses the following scheme to clean up Acronis Secure Zone:

If there is not enough free space in the zone to create a backup, then Acronis True Image deletes the oldest full backup with all subsequent incremental/differential backups;

If there is only one full backup (with subsequent incremental/differential backups) left and a full backup is in progress, then the old full backup and incremental/differential backups are deleted;

Otherwise, (only one full backup left, and an incremental/differential backup is in progress) you will get a message about space error. In that case you will have to either re-create the full backup or increase the Acronis Secure Zone.

You can always check how much free space is left in the zone on the second page of the Manage Acronis Secure Zone wizard.

3. Schedule several pairs of tasks so that several sets of images covering last few weeks\months are created (see these previous threads for details: Can TI9 control the number of backup sets? (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?p=571111#post571111), differential back up Q's (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=121190)).

If you have any further questions concerning Acronis software, please feel free to submit a request for technical support (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/my/support/) or post any of them on this forum. We will certainly try to help you in resolving any issues.

Thank you.
