EZ Antivirus 7.2.0.0 Whoo Hoo !

Going against conventional wisdom and forsaking the av-comparatives test, I decided to re-visit EZ Antivirus and I'm glad I did, this program has improved tremendously since the last time I tried it almost two years ago, download went smooth (5.44 MB), installation was a breeze, program and virus signature updating, flawless. You must be connected to the internet during installation as it updates the program and signatures during installation.

If your a dialup user, I would recommend you take a look at this program. It's very lite on my laptop, has pretty good scanner speed, above average configuration capability, and very easy to understand and use. It has a good help file, access to online knowledge base and support. The GUI is nice and very intuitive, has great logging features and the advanced settings are easily accessible. I have really enjoyed exploring this new version and look forward to the test drive.

P.S. I took the Microsoft offer for a free, one year trial, what a deal !

All i could remember was EZ "poor" detection from reports.

Any improvement on that would be nice.

When you are a surfer with "normal" surfing habits it's good enough, when you are a "high risk surfer" i can't recommend it:)

I used it a couple of years ago, before that I used their free InoculateIt, I have never been infected using their product in the past. Just downloaded the newest version, will keep you posted after I have had a chance to see how it performs. I know I like the program alot, it's sweet, let's hope it keeps me safe and sound. I'm not to worried though, I have good computing habits and consider myself a low risk user for infection.

I'am not 100% sure but, I think EZ use the Kaspersky AV engine.

It's the Inoculate or Vet engine, I can't remember, but I know it's not the Kaspersky engine or I wouldn't be using EZ Antivirus. I do not like Kaspersky products.

well i don't remember much about ca AV's detection-rates,but i think its somewhere in 70's.

also ca's av is very light and will keep you reasonably safe.

but the latest version to be released vers:8,i think has heuristics and has better detection rates.

On recommendation from her friend who designs WebSites, she installed CA's eTrust EZ Antivirus 16 months ago. This was before the MS Windows Users offer, but it was also a "One Year" free trial or two years for $19.95. About six months into the "free trial" a PopUp asked for Payment and she was pleased to pay the US $19.95 for the balance of the two years.

Her Dell Dimension was delivered with 90day McAfee :( and she had NIS on it for a year, but EZ-Trust was a great improvement from those Programs.

She runs WinXP-Home (SP2) on a P4 2.8GHz w512MB and I have added SpyBot S&D 1.4, SpywareBlaster and Ad-Aware SE.

EarthLink Dial-Up for Hotmail through Outlook Express and safe-surfing habits, using IE6.

This is EZ Antivirus 7.0.6.7 w/ eng. 12.4.1 and it has been a smooth, trouble-free Program that keeps itself up-to-date and never bothers her with 'boxes' Pop-Ups or questions.

If she can get the 'MS Window User' deal for 7.2.0.0 or version 8* for a two-year $19.95 deal I would expect she will want that.

For me, I feel much safer 'Under the Umbrella' of AntiVir Classic {free} but I can't even get her to switch to Firefox ::)

I do perform Online Scans using KAV and Ewido and have never seen any Malware on her System so I think EZ-Trust is the best for her. :-*

Version 7.2 is the latest in the CA EZ personal product line. The version 8 is the enterprise CA product. Either way they both use the same Vet 12.XX engine, but the enterprise version also has the InoculateIT engine. ;)

I'm curious to know what the improvements are in this new version over the previous versions, as the scan engine appears to be the same (12.4.1)

In other postings you have said you have stopped using Nod32 because of update problems. I want to point out you could not update Nod32 or Kaspersky for months and they would still have better over all detection rates than EZ AV.

As for update problems CA had a huge one less than a year ago which 86'ed the AV for about 12 hours.

A server update problem for 12 hours is alot different scenario then the problems I encountered with Nod32 for two months. It failed to update properly on an almost daily basis and missed several updates altoghter. Eset has serious server issues, which need to be addressed before I would ever re-visit that program.

As for Kav, I never had any update problems, I just don't like the product for various reasons. EZ Antivirus I have used off and on since the days of the free InoculateIt PE, it has never failed to protect my computer, like the old F-Prot. EZ Antivirus is my go to antivirus when all the rest fail to meet my expectations, so, here I am, using my old stand-by, once again.

Your comment about Nod32 and Kaspersky having better detection rates than EZ Antivirus even if they had not been updated for months, is definitely not shared by me, for sure. I'll stick with EZ AV for the time being, I know it well and it has always met my expectations for an antivirus solution.

CA's Antivirus product is quite good for detection of common malware (but I think it's not one of the best), our corporate network has been using eTrust Antivirus (not eTrust EZ) for years with quite success, eTrust Antivirus has a very practical management tools, but we plan to switch to other solution that we think it's better and cheaper, now we seem to have 2 final candidates, AVG Network Edition and Fortinet FortiClient.

I've used etrust antivirus in the past and its a very good program imo. I work for a multi million dollar mining company and they use etrust antivirus on all their computers so i'm convinced its a great program.

Yeah, eTrust Antivirus/eTrust Management Solutions is great solution for large corporate network, many companies trust it, e.g. Microsoft uses eTrust Antivirus to protect its network, the national bank in my country also uses eTrust Antivirus.

Hello everyone, I started a thread on CA Antivirus vs AOL AVS and asked in that one if CA Antivirus (EZ Trust) has a custom install of any kind. I know with Avast or AVG Free you have the option while installing not to install certain features like E-Mail. I don't use the E-Mail protection or have this option with my current AV, and if I would decide to switch to CA in the future it would be nice to know if it has an option not to install the E-mail feature.

True mate. That's why some of the risk users I know of at another security forum use KAV. I don't need to spend that much money in one program as my surfing habits are ultraconservative. So I stick to free versions.

Not too sure if its been mentioned but the new version 8 of etrust antivirus is out and the free license works with it. Hopefully version 8 will be another step forward.
